Title: 5.5 v 5.4 rods
Post by: Rocket Ron on April 23, 2010, 22:05:01 pm
Hi

would you notice any real difference / gains in performance in using a 5.5 rod over 5.4 .

I'm using an 82mm crank and 94mm barrels and the engine will be blow through turbo. I take it I'll need stroker barrels and pistons too

regards Ron

I wish you lot would make your minds up what your forum names are! As far as rods go, check john mahers site, different
rod ratios give different range / power :D

yep but Martin has a set of 5.5 and I just wondered as the engine was apart if there were any gains to be had with a set of longer rods

i feel that a forced fed engine dosent care what rod you put on it. for intence ive seen 84mm with por lenght rev over 8000 TURBO engine it just dosent care. what ive seen and experienced the 1.62to 1.65 rod ratio on NA engines will make more bottem end grunt than say a 1.7+ ratio engine. the 1.7ratio engines are easyer on piston skirts than say a 1.62 but i feel are considerable LASYER on the low end. this is just my experience with the subject .  82 with a por lenght is a great combo some will tend to differ but we all have are ways of doing things and thats cool . PISTON SPEED IS WERE ITS AT. just my two bits . UD  .

I compleatly agree with Jeff, as were on the topic of rod ratio on a turbo engine, some modiified GTR skylines(2.7-2.8L) run a 1.5 rod ratio and still rev to 9,000-10,000rpm!!!!!! making 2 to 3 times there power to cc :), its all in the piston speed, but you must have everything elce working together(head, can, intake, exhaust, ect, ect), so for boom boom stop fucking around with your rod ratio until you change the bucket of fuel you have at the begin of your intake(holley piece of shit) you are not going to notice any different :)

Marco love :-*

It not me that is playing with my rod ratios.

I got  5.7 rods in my motor.

As for EFI maybe one day. ;) ;D
