Title: Pink Panther's engine - Rest in Pieces...
Post by: Ole on October 06, 2008, 07:08:32 am
Hey Racers,

Last weekend we had the Bitburg season's finals, the forecast didn't look very good but we had almost the hole saturday for racing.

My second pass was a new PB with 11.35@113, that's only 1/100 slower than the car ran in 1974 at OCIR... ;D

Sure I wanted to get the missing 1/100, but when I tried the rear wheels blocked in 4th gear at almost 8k rpm... :o
Fortunately the car was stable, don't want to think about what could have happened...

It first seemed a rod let go, but after dismanteling the engine we saw a broken crank between the center main and cyl. 1......

Back luck Ole, but good luck that it was just the engine and not anything more serious as can happen when a motor lets go at 8k in fourth!!!! Take care, matt

Ole Glad you and the car are fine.

When us young guys race these old race cars we should expect some breakages, the good news is we can rebuild it faster and better.

Good Luck and stay safe

Damn! Shame to see the internals looking like that but if thats what comes of racing the car then so be it, it's what it's built for after all. All the best with the rebuild, see you somtime next year.
