i don't think the WOB empi decklid is still available -- they did just 1 run of those -- and not even sure they are still in business

(i got the same ;))

I thought about 'liberating' the top inner piece off of another decklid and grafting it in to my glass lid somehow, i've got an aronson style lid from Paintbox and a steel eyebrow type 67 lid from them coming this weekend too ;D

That's what I'd do too - that way the hinges are going to be in exactly the right place.

sounds like a plan, can you simply glass a the steel piece onto the fibreglass decklid?

I'm liking the idea of a steel one. I've got a glass eyebrow one at home at the moment and having looked at it I'm not sure about grafting hinges in. In the end I came to the conclusion that the glass decklid would work best with pins but since the car won't suit pins I'm going to try and get a metal decklid convereted over by a metal fabrication wizard.

:)

Hey danny,

Just out of curiosity how much would you be talking to do that work to decklid?

Have you got any pics of the ones you've done?

Could you do it to a 'W' lid? Just thinkin out loud.... you know ;-)

Well in all seriousness I may source a 'W' lid from the US so... while its over there maybe Danny could do his magic?... ;-)

Just a thought ;-)

Seriously awesome work though! Any more pics of the build Danny?

The ones on the Heb are "glued" onto the original decklid.
So they can be removed later for correct vintage restoration.

Here's a shot of one of mine in raw gel coat. I used to sell a version with bonded in hinges but it's so easy to do most people buy them without and do it themselves.

The guy that build the car told me the metal lid was made by Paintbox. Anyway it's really a nice job!
Will try to post some details pictures soon.

Rob at East Coast Buggies makes them. I've got one on my bug. Semi-W though not a full W.

https://www.eastcoastbuggies.co.uk/

Bonding the hinges to it makes it function like a normal decklid. I used a QR pin on the bottom.

This wasn't the decklid, but a baja bug eye bonnet I did, same technique, some good structural epoxy, few clamps and a donor bit of sheet metal.
