Incredible! I've got the old Hot VWs with the feature on this car in it, and always thought it looked spot on without the bumpers. Can't believe it's come home! Cheesy

Thanks all of you for the nice words.  And those of you who have said that it's one of your favorites, I am very flattered.  Thanks.

It is an unbelievable feeling, and I can't wait to get it going.

Deano, I was hoping you could sell me a pair of those shoes; aren't they the ones you wear?  :-p

WOW! That's a story of a lifetime. Amazing find. Just curious, who are the other two guys kneeling in front of their engines in the picture?

That's an incredible story.
But life is full of signs and somewhere it was written that you must drive again this car (because you love IT so much !).  Wink
It's a great news for the DKP too : + 1 car (an old lady comes back at home !!!!)
So now Doug, please don't hesitate to share pics of restoration.
Thxs,

Leave it to Richard Roth...  Luckily, they're not quite right, and these 11˝'s would never fit in those 9˝'s.

Steve?  That you?  Howdy!

If you ever want to see the Wocket again, you'd better come over to my house.  It's going to live with Russell in Scotland.

Those other two guys are Bill DeMoss, and the ever popular Bill Rodgers, owners of the other two Ghia's in DKPII besides mine and Roger's.

Yes, an alarm, and LoJack and a pitbull inside ought to do it.

Whoa, I guess Russel really was in the market for a red cal-looker.  Grin  So I guess the next question is, how long is it going to take you to get this one done.  Wink

Well, I'm hoping to do everything ONLY ONCE.  That should save a lot of time.

I've already located some important engine pieces:  Okrasa 84mm crank w/ Carillo rods, Italian 48 IDA's and Skat Traks.  And I found a Formuling France steering wheel that is identical to the one that was in the car way back when.  Still need to nail down some 15x7 Porsche alloys.  It will spend about a year in the body shop, unless I get lucky, but I think 2 years might do it.

Cool. Do us a favor and post a thread in the In Da Works section and keep us updated on the progress. I think a lot of people would find it really cool to follow along with the rebuild. Post lots of pics.  Grin

No DDS shifter.  But that's OK.  Got a surprise in store...

Thanks to urging by Art Gutirrez, I just ordered the license plate.  I could not get the original, because one of the previous owners kept the plate and who knows what vehicle it's on now...

So I ordered FASRNYU.   And I got it on the Lake Tahoe plates in honor of my good pal Bill Rodgers, who's responsible for my acquiring the 84mm Okrasa crank.

Franchy, I sincerely hope you find your Ghia.  It would be really great to have twon success stories like this, wouldn't it?

Thanks all...

It's been home for a week, and I still can't believe it.  I keep going in the garage to look at it, expecting it to be gone again.  I get so emotional I kiss the car, even the dirty places.  ;-)

It will be restored as closely as possible to the way it was the day it left, with lots of old school, period-correct pieces.  Already have an Okrasa 84mm crank with Carillo rods in the works, and I've already got the correct Formuling France steering wheel.

Now if I could just find the license plate...

first welcome dough on the lounge
thats a happy end story I am too happy for you its one of my favorite callook classic car
keep us informed of the work on the ghia please

Oh, that R.  No, the late ones.  That's what was on the back of the Ghia when it was stolen...
