Hi

I need to replace the wiring harness on my 54 oval with semaphores. At the same time I would like to upgrade to 12V. Would You buy a wiring harness for the right Year or would I be better off to use a harness for a later car?

Get the one for a 54.  The wire doesn't care what voltage is across it, only the current matters.  And all things being equal, a 12V system has half the current of a 6V system.
