Looks like the same idea as some of the early gassers used - Small Wonder had that sort of thing made by DDS if I remember correctly. I always wondered if they worked!

I've been reading that thread, currently waiting on a shipping quote to get a girdle sent over to the UK.

Yes, The Small Wonder did have a set on it, maybe it was DDS.
