Title: dave galassi car
Post by: speedwell on December 04, 2007, 19:35:54 pm
dave i would like to know more about your  car she's awesome  8)
here's some few one there's on the car : the engine has a Pepco on it.  It is a 1600, with Chong ported single port heads, a VZ 14 cam and an early Berg crank.  010, Carter sidedraft from a 1965 Turbo Corvair, Cylcone 4 in 1 header with cast ends, a matching glass pack and a built gear box.  The Americans, a period correct Sun Tach and now an NOS early Hurst Indy shifter are the other additions to the car
i want more pictures buddy , i falling in love ::) of your car  ;)
here's some picture , and the one you asked me yesterday in the super vw mag n°208/DEC 06 p.63  ;D

I don't mean to butt in here.... ;D, but Dave's car has got to be one of the sweetest rides around. I've driven it a little bit and the car is so much fun. I can't describe the awesome noise that little huffer makes back there, but it is unlike any other Bug out there. Probably the coolest car around in my opinion.....I have a soft spot for "pre cal look"

Jim

Thanks to all for the kind words.  Fabian, I promise I will take and post some photos for you.  It is the least I can do for all your help.  Thanks for posting those pics of Jim's (Moore) Notch.  Great car, no?  It was a real inspiration for me while I built mine.  So was Danny Gabbard's car, real clean, looked just right.........and Darrell Baker's Squareback.  We were learning and building our T3's at the same time back in the 80's.  I can't recall from a past topic, anyone know where any of these cars went?

I'll answer any questions I can about the car.  It's had an interesting past..........and should have a good future, too.  Just need time to work on it, that's all.  There's several cars to build before I can do much about that one, and it's a runner right now.  Super low maintenance, fun to drive and dependable.

By the way, and maybe this should be in the shifter post, but I pulled the Hurst and put the stock shifter back in it.  I like the feel of it better in this car...........and it's never missed a shift.

Again, please give me a little more time and I'll shoot some more and post them.

Good to see you here as well!  As I mentioned, you have quite the following in the lounge, and rightfully so, for a number of well built cars.  Let me know when you are settled.  We can talk about projects then.

All the best to you, and see you soon.

Those are M&H DOTs on the back! Probably a 165 up front?

Title: Re: dave galassi car
Post by: yvre on January 12, 2008, 22:47:37 pm
Very very nice car.

Now lower that front!!!  ;D

One thing puzzles me though... It's the fuel going UP the intake pipe on its way to the supercharger. No problems with that?

Title: Re: dave galassi car
Post by: Dave Galassi on January 13, 2008, 06:13:47 am
Yes, Zach, the rears are M&H's and the fronts are are pair of XZX 165's.

Yves, You'd be right to question the intake, but it works really well.  Starts up and runs fine.
For a 1600 single port, it runs hard and has been down the 1/8th in 10.01, without pushing it too hard.
I know what you mean about the front end, but for the era this car represents, it doesn't seem right to that.

I dig cars with the color matching fender beading. I gotta find me some Zenith Blue stuff. A few years ago, I used to see it available. Now; not-so-much.

SWEET! Just noticed that Dave's running the same spark plug wire heads that I did... the Type 3 ones. GREAT choice! I gotta dig around for mine. Hopefully, I was smart enough to remove 'em from the car when I sold it in '85. Looks like another trip to the attic.

Greetings guys!
I just got back from the Grand Canyon with the family........another story all together.............

What a great time it was.  I met so many people whom I admire and others I met for the first time.  This really is a great community.  Gunter, Peter and the CSP gang, Mags, Sir Licksalot and many more..........

I'm still laughing about the racing!  I ran the valves on the crew cab (tow vehicle) and the ragtop the night before at about 9:30 p.m. and hit the hay.  Up at 5:00 and to the track.  The ingress and egress worked much better than last bugin.  Got in with the Wiess clan and parked.  What an experience!  They are serious racers.  Allen, Sue and Matt (who had his own '67 there to race) attacked everything from charging the battery to checking tires, while I put the tilt canvas up on my truck and installed the hammock in the back.  Then it was off to tech (quickly, as I learned from Allen, so you don't have to wait in line long) and back for more prep, which for me meant a banana and some gatorade.  I watched some of the big boys getting ready as well, Art Gutierrez, Scott Bakken and Lawless.  Well, then it was off to the staging lanes.
What a blast!  Met a lot of great people and saw some cool hardware.  A lot of "what's in that thing?" and "turbo?".  Had to tell the truth..............2332 turbo.
Lined up against a very butterfly filled Gary Justus, who should have shown me his license plate from the green light on.  Thanks for making me look good, I owe you one!  Then got right back in lanes and ended up in the right lane against a powder puffer I didn't know.  She treed me by a tenth but I managed to keep even with the short gears and 4.37s.  We ran pretty even until I ran out of gear and she pulled at about the 1000 foot mark.  16.4 to her 16.3..  We had a good laugh at the timing booth and she drove off.  It wasn't until later in the day that I saw her run a 14.7!
After two fun runs, I hitched it up to the truck and headed out to see the swapmeet with the DSK guys, Steve, Gary and Larry.  They had a batch of the drink they invented back at one of the old bugins...............I wasn't sure whether they were going to drink it or put it in their tanks to up the octane.  Saw some more friends in the stands for the rest of the day.

Thanks to all who made it a great day.

P.S.  It ALMOST looks like the front tires left the ground!

Sorry to hear about Lee's engine.  It doesn't look like he was overboosting considering the pulleys he has.
There is a lot of cool old hardware out there; Zeniths, Strombergs, Superior parts, homebuilt headers, cool intakes (I dig Lee's tunnel ram)...........
Rick and Sir Licksalot, I owe you both the keys for a drive.  Uncle Jim......we've gotta talk......do they make those in eyebrows too?  Richard, I didn't even know that was you when I was talking to Troy.......sorry for the lack of introduction.
In addition to the rest of the great experience, I was pleasantly surprised to see John Lazenby there, as he said he would likely not be able to make it.  I know the desire is still with him.......let's see if he builds another..........................
Sarge, a huge thanks for all you do for the hobby.

If you use certain style "capillary" type oil temp gauges, the sender goes in the dipstick hole.
The owner found a place to keep the original one handy to check the oil level.
