Title: Oil pressure problem?
Post by: Neil Davies on October 25, 2017, 18:44:30 pm
I've finally got the 2007cc 48IDF motor into my Beetle!

But there's no oil pressure, which is what I need help with. The motor was built and run years ago - I've owned it for 10 or 11 years at least. It had the oil drained out about 5 years ago when I started to rebuild the heads, replace pushed tubes etc. I've put oil in it today, cranked it over (without the coil connected!) but there's nothing coming out of the pump cover to the filter.

I know to fill the pump full of grease to prime it on a new build - do you think I need to do that on this motor? Has it drained the pump dry? Other than taking the pulley, tin and pump cover off, what can I do to prime the pump?

If it's a full flow cover, just disconnect line at cover, and using an oil can, squirt some 20W50 mixed with assembly moly-lube into pump. Then crank and prime with line not connected at filter end. Once it emits oil, reconnect.

Good luck

(if this doesn't work, then I'd examine oil pump)

Jim

Thank you Jim, just tried exactly what you said and I've got steady flow from the pump! Going home happy - tomorrow afternoon is fire-up time!
