Title: QA1 shocks
Post by: Ninho/DKM on December 27, 2014, 01:11:35 am
Could someone write me which QA1 shocks are right for a standard mounts on a 63 pan? Extended and compressed lenght and or serial code, just to identify which could be right to buy. Thanks to all.

Rears? from memory this one

You need to swap out the steel sleeves they supply for metric ones to fit the vw size bolts, I have just pressed them out of old vw shocks before to use and pressed them in the QA1's

Are you wanting a coil over then? it would be ok length wise, but not so easy to fit as its pysically bigger, if you go coil over I would get double adjustables, not singles

How do you guys run limiter straps with the QA1 adjustable shocks?

I use longer mounting bolts, then a spacer[cut down piece of tube that fits tight over bolt] between shock and limit strap to allow clearance, you could just use thick washers & stack them on the longer bolts

[attachment=1]Thanks Riche.

My car has a narrowed torsion housing with the stock shock mounts cut off.  I have a sub frame above the torsion bars that I will use for the shock mounts.   I think what I will end up doing is running the strap from the outside of the axle tube shock mount, up to a separate strap mount on the subframe.  Sort of what Mike did here on the bottom mount.

scroll 5/8 down the page.

My concern was the mount + shock + spacer, then strap! would make for a long bolt and high bending moment.  I can't avoid it because the tube mount is outward of the shock and the sub frame mount inward.  Not sure if that is clear.  Putting the strap on the spring plate side should help.

Thanks

I have them on a couple of street cars that also see the track and they work good
