So heres a picture i found today of my first VW and first car and was 2 weeks before my 17 birthday, it was a 71/72 K reg, with two owners and only 42k miles and all original, we paid £ 150 (Euros 150 or $200 for it) as it was damaged, the lady owner had caught her bracelet on the indicator arm and and drove into a lamp post, i installed a straight 2nd hand beam, wing and headlight from the local scrap yard (in those days there was always a handfull of beetles lying around) and i was ready for the MOT test, my uncle a FORD man came to do a pre test inspection for my dad on the car as money was very tight, my uncle was less than impressed and told my dad it was rotten and we should get rid of it........ so i sold for £ 100 to a guy who wrecked it and left i on the beach....... Oh the rotten car, well it actaully only needed a 4" stip on the sill behind the runner board, other than that it was perfect...... I wish i knew then what i know now..... sad but very very true, oh my next car "a Ford Contina 1.6L" thanks Uncle.....

Enjoy the pic, i hope to find a couple more of the old polaroids.

If Russell is brave enough to show his first VW, then so am I.  My 58 and me circa 1970, box stock save for a glasspack and Cragers.
I was pretty proud of it until I saw my first DKP car.....  Embarrassed

I was 19 in 1983 and I bought a 1964 Deluxe Bus for my first car. Not everyone understood but I must have seen something in it. Besides, it was only $900.00 and I drove it home and took it cruising that weekend. This was a couple years after I bought so I had made some period modifications by then....

Here's my first car, This is the day it was towed home in 1987. I bought it for $400 in the local paper,1964,  baja wheels, flared fenders, wood dash...Yikes! It was fairly rust free and had a sunroof so at the age of 16 and with the help of my brother a Cal look beetle was soon underway!

Before it was finished I pushed it out into the lane for a pic next to my brothers Red 71

Not a very good shot but here it is again with my next project a 59 Canadian Standard.

This is my '63 in 1996. I guess I was bit too old when I started at 26 years old, waited after I graduated and got a job so I wouldn't have to do stuff with student budget.

This is how it ended up looking after resto + new paint + Berms, started an 2161cc engine project too but that didn't get finished before I sold the car.

This is my first car period! It was a "62 ragtop. This picture was taken a month before it was stolen in 1973.  I was 19. Can you say early "Cal Look". Chrome wheels, dechromed body, no bumpers, lowered by removing torsion bars. It had a 1382cc 40 horse with an Engle 110 cam and springs, a Holly 300 bug Spray (too big) a bosch 010 distributor, and Brute header. All but the header was purchased at the Buena Park Auto Haus. I thought I was so cool! [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cool pic, Sarge. I have a soft spot for ovals. Was that original paint? What is the story on the exhaust? Doesn't look stock.

Thanks for the comments, guys!  The '56 was purchased from the church choir director for $300 and was my first car.  I had a friend down the street who had access to his mom & dad's '58 and we spent our time dreaming about all sorts of modifications (there was a JC Whitney catalog involved).  Unfortunately, neither of us had any money to speak of, so we had to settle for the cheap easy stuff such as spray paint, Turtle Wax and tire black.  It took me weeks to come up with the cash to get some bell tips welded to the stock muffler... this from seeing scavenger pipes on hot rods.  Things have come a long way since then... glad I'm still around to share the memories. Bought her back in 1979.
It was beat then and hasn't gotten much better through the years.
Every few years, she get's dragged off the side of the house, an engine is installed, a set of cheesy wheels thrown on, and it's on like Donkey Kong.
All in the name of boredom &/or nostalgia.

Hmmmm, a trfile embarrassing. Bought August 1974, a 1963 sunroof sedan from Switzerland. Was Pearl White but I dechromed the bodywork and repainted it BMC Tartan Red in April 1975, about when the pic was taken. Lowered front suspension by welding and removing torsion leaves. Stock front wheels, 6Jx15 rears with 205/70 Dunlop SP Sport tyres (Jaguar XJ6!). Engine was the 1200 with ported heads, Weber dual-choke carb, 010 distributor, (very) lightened flywheel, Transporter clutch and glasspack. Tinted windows were 'in', but not sure about the 'frenched' licence plate! Cheesy  Car was sold to a guy in Holland,I think, who blew the engine a while later. Stars and Stripes ’65 in the background was owned by Andy Pearce of Autocavan (where the photo was taken), painted by me and fitted with a 1600 motor with dual 34ICT Webers.

21 years ago, my second VW after a 1969 cal looker with flat black paint. Fresh paint, 185/55-15 tires all around, slightly lowered and a 1835ccm engine. 6 x 9" JBL and a Cerwin Vega subwoofer. I loved that car!
