Hate to sask this guys, but what are you defining as a 'gasser'? A lot of the cars getting mentioned here never ran in the old NHRA /Gas classes and are not technically 'gassers' by the accepted definition. Some are B/MC cars, others are just VW racers which never ran NHRA.

splitman: vw@vwgassergarage.com

Keith I was trying to get a list of as many of the named cars as possible, it didnt really matter if they competed in NHRA, it was more the style and look of the car that was important.

For referrance please can you discribe what makes a Gasser technically accepted, as to be honest I dont actually know !

Thanks

PS some nice Pics. Keep them coming, thanks

Strictly speaking 'Gasser' is a name that was used to describe a car which ran in the NHRA 'Gas' classes (H/Gas, I/Gas etc).  Smiley

some of you will have read the gasser wars book. There is a picture of the inch pincher in there, but most of the cars are willys coupes, chevys etc, as you would expect. Obviously this isnt a vw book, but it does set out the different gas classes and some of the cars in there are awesome. If you ever feel the need to spend a few quid on a coffee table book, there are plenty of worse places to spend the money!

hi ritchie i would tend to agree with keith, some of the later cars from the v late 70s early 80s i dont think can be classed as gassers as they do not come from that era. i think lil red could classed as a gasser but not show exactly when it ran, tayco bug,the bergs, a couple more.
