quite a price it is!

but what kind of "unfaithful" member could get away with his selling his badge?
i'd think it's the holy grail for them real dkp1 members...

but then... who am i to judge that  Wink

I'm sure you wouldn't need an original to start popping out repros... just some artwork.

I dunno if it worse that someone would sell that for $2500 or somebody would actually pay $2500 for it.

I think you should think it over carefully Russell
yes I could easily do a reproduction, in limited run and for not much money
so could everybody with a little eye for business
BUT I think biggest question is would you put $2.500 on your car or in your safe at home ?
and yes it's a one of a kind rare piece of history
subject to a lot of discussion I guess

That's crazy money... but it's not sold yet!
Reproducing the badge, sticker, etc. would be a copyright infringement, as DKP owns the right to the name/logo (yes, we paid a substantial amount of money to avoid this type of situation!)

I dont think it would be correct for the Goss choptop. The Goss chop came around after that badge was made (if the given info is accurate). If I was the lucky owner of the chop, and had the coin to throw at that badge, I might buy it, but I wouldnt install it on that car. Just my .02 Wink

First of all, the badge belongs on the bonnet of a DKP-car from "the day", so why the hell is it up for sale?

And, it would be absolutely luidicrous to put a 2500$ badge on a car that has nothing to do with the ones mentioned above!

But, if someone's nuts enogh to pay the price I'll applaud him, and the seller. Good luck.

I agree Zach - but the reason I wouldn't put it on that car is that it never had one, and it's pretty much exactly how it was in '76 - bar the engine and paint after the paint reacted during the journey between California and the UK in the container back in late 1993/early '94.
The badge which is for sale from the DKP 1 era.
If you look in the book California Look VW by Keith Seume you'll see Arnie Mohlman's '67 still has one, Mark Thruber's car had one, Ron Fleming's Oval had one, Aronson's '62 had one, Craig Foster's Squareback panelvan had one on the front.
Dave mason has the second type - the enamelled one - on his '62 and that's about it.
I have the same one as is for sale on the samba  which I got many, many years ago from Bill Schwimmer and I'd say it was one of the rarest VW related  items ever. Period.
The only things I own which are anything like as important to me are the four DKP T-shirts I have been presented with over the years by Hector Bonilla.

Firstly if my advisor is correct (thanks Ivan), I have made a mistake the Chop was DKP2 car not 1, DKP ended in 72 and DKP 2 started in approx 75/76.

So your all right the badge would be wrong on the Chop........ So ill stick it in my pocket instead !

Sorry to upset / offend anybody.

I was so excited that i might have a chance to own such a special badge that my history and brain failed.

Sorry.

keeping it in your pocket is a decent idea, but tracking down a dkp1 car to put it on sounds like much more fun!
