The upper pic of Pink Panther seems to be taken at Bitburg/germany some months ago with Ole behind the steering wheel. Cool

That's correct, pic was taken at DDD#4. Last weekend I put my selfmade "back-in-da-day"-style wheelie-bars on, the Panther is ready for Euro-Bug-In!!!

I know the Tar Babe is being restored as well, can anyone get recent pics of that?

These are the latest pics of Tar Babe I've seen:

I wonder when is Russell going to buy the Lightning Bug and paint it back blue  Grin

Ive heard that the current owner (he bought it from the Schley Bros) has no intentions of selling it Sad

Okay, this is the other side of the coin.
Not a new car, meant to look vintage with reproduction parts, but.........
How does everyone feel about a historical treasure being restored with reproduction Empi parts ?

These are the latest pics of Tar Babe I've seen:

The old ones are still the best......... They are totally raw, when you look at the detail in Sum fun, Lil Snort and Mouse Trap you begin to see how it was, todays cars are just too good and we should take our hats off to those who build then in "back then style".

Tar babe desereves to be restored and hopefully the correct parts will be found some day, but until then we shoul;d be pleaseed to see her being assembled.

Lighting Bug ! All i need is a phone number !!!!!!!!! but have also heard its not for sale in Mexico ! It is easier to find a DKP 1 car im sure, this will be next weeks post.......................

Russell

PS I would love Mouse Trap ?

Tar Babe still has most of the original aluminum interior panels.
They were anodized in a two color "marble" process.
Almost had a pinkish-purple "tie-dye" look to them.
I don't think anyone does that process anymore, and the guy paints them flat black !

The original Lightning Bug is not in Mexico, but in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I saw this car last July in person, and the only person(s) that will ever get a chance to puchase it, if and when, would be Paul and Mark Schley! The owner has owned that car since 1973, when he purchased it directly from Mark and Paul, after the Winternationals. It is the most famous VW on the island.

Even if they are not restored correctly now, don't mean that they can’t be done correctly in the future, remember the race is long! The most important is that the car isn't "lost" like the Inch Pincher Too.

I hope it`s being raced once in a while. But I actually like that it`s in puerto rico, and that people just can`t go there and buy it if their wallet is big enuff. It makes it a little more mystic and unreachable than all de other cars.Does anyone have some pictures of it,as it is today? Is it in good condition?
I really like this tread.More pictures?? please Smiley

OK Sarge: It ain't so  Grin

I got some current pics of the interior, the two-color panels still exist...

Unfortunately these shots are very poor quality, but it's good to know the panels are still there.
