Title: Manifolds vs. Tin

  Just curious to see what you guys do when modifying dual port tin to accommodate big manifolds.  I have NOS tin and don't want to just hack them up.  So in order to keep the factory deflectors on the inside of the tin do you trim the deflector and gently push the tin in toward the fins?   I have seen plenty where they were just cut off and a huge hole was left where the manifold goes but a lot of air is lost here. Also trying to keep intact the holes for the spark plug boots.

First picture is of the problem area,
Second of the deflector and
Third is me pointing to the area deflector side I am thinking of shortening so I can push the tin toward the fins.

Let me know what you guys think or have come up with.

I hae generic IDA manifolds and carefully trimmed the tin so they fit.

Hey Taylor, my original EMPI manifolds have a boss for a center 3rd stud so the tins needed a LOT of clearancing in that area. I had to do what you are thinking of, trimmed about 1/4" off the deflectors and pushed the opening back towards the head. Unfortunately it had to be moved so far that it ended up cracking the tin in the corners of the opening so I had to weld that back up.

I usually trim a little off the deflector than make a cut at the thinnest point right behind the intake stud. That lets you push the tin back a little but still keep the shape of it.
