Title: MSD 6al compatable with petronix and a few other problems
Post by: Stefan Rossi on October 13, 2010, 22:33:00 pm
Hi

I have a few teething problems and thort this was the best place to get experienced answers. So any help would be gratefull thankyou  :)

I have just brought a msd 6AL box, ss coil and RPM module selector.

As i cannot afford to buy the MSD dizzy just yet i was wondering, if i can use the msd stuff i now have with my 009 with petronix ignition in it?
think its ignitor 1, i cant remember for sure, ill check when i get back in the country this friday.

I have seen the msd 6al box used with a 009 before but im unsureas to if it had points or not  ???

Also my engine stutters and struggles at around 4/5000/rpm, if i put my foot down it really struggles, like not enough fuel or air
engine is a 2276
fk89 cam
044 heads
48 IDA's

The IDA's have 37mm venturis, im thinking i need 40mm?
Am i right in thinking the venturis are restricting the engine by not letting in enough air at the top end of the rev range?

Also what colour wires in the back of an autometer sport comp silver rev counter, do you hav to snip to make it work with 4 cylinder?

thanks in advance

stef

Dear Stef.

Sounds like yes you need to step up in venturis. 37 is restricting ur top end especially with the FK89 which is gonna wanna do lots at the top. the 37mm are probably giving you lots of torque down low, but she must be hitting a brick wall at 5000 ish.
My 2276 with FK87 is running 42mm venturis, with 200 air correctors and 160 mains and revs hard.

not sure about the MSD stuff as Ive not done this before but are gonna upgrade soon.

Hope this helps.

hi tony

thankyou very much fo the info :)

ok so i am going to order 4 new venturis then,

wat size would you recomend? 40, 42? i dont want to much of a flat spot in low revs because i drive the car as a daily driver aswell.

thanks

What valves sizes do you run, particularly inlet?

I run 40 vents on my 2276cc, FK87 and wedgeports. Drives real nice

my valves are 42 and 37's.

I'm thinking 40's cus I don't want to lose to much low end torque?

Anybody know about the MSD/petronix dilema?
Or will I hav to put points in the 009?

Thanks

Stef

try this first when using the petronix in the 009.

schematic comes from a PDF file from the MSD website, I cropped it some time ago myself. But it's all on there.
