Title: Shimming springs?? Help for a newbie.
Post by: Jesse/DVK on December 14, 2008, 23:30:51 pm
I would like to know more about the shimming of valve springs. Why do you need to do it and how do you do it? I should recieve my bugpack 4046 next week and I would like to know how to install them on my heads. I've searched a bit on the forum and I read something about coil bind, it's bad if the coil touch each other but to much of a gap is also not good?

Also with break-in of the engine should I remove the inner valve spring?

Thanks!

hey Jesse,
i dont know if its completely correct,
but for my motor, i had 2.5 mm before coil bind at full lift
you also have to check the retainer to guide clearance, and piston to valve clearance
i ran the double springs directly, but i have udo lifters... dont know for other brands of lifters
hope it helps you a bit...
