Is it possible to use Bugpack 1 5/8 heaterboxes on the hot street 2276cc engine?

I am searching for a perfect  header for my application,so thinking If I could get heat I would take it,if it wouldn't make the engine too hot  Shocked

here is another solution

AC.net 1 5/8 header with heater boxes and the J-pipes for summer

http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=MEH0026&cartid=

CSP Python is also made to work with heater boxes.

I'm running Dansk 1 5/8 boxes on my crew cab with a 2110, 120 cam, mild heads and an A-1 prototype sidewinder.  I believe  that you could run that combination (a mass production exhaust) without a down side.  I assume the bugpack heater boxes are Dansk or similar?
Even here in California, it's nice to have the heat on a winter day.

Whoever designed those ac.net boxes obviously doesn't use them... if you look at the picture, the #2 (as well as #4, I assume) exhaust pipe will be right in the way of where the hoses come down from the fanshroud. You can sort of bend them around it, but I guarantee the exhaust pipe will burn through them in short order. The pipes need to be bent outwards for clearance, or better yet adapt a pair of heater box junction pipes (like the factory used, as well as the EMPI and original Treuhaft headers did) that go around those particular pipes- that would also pick up more heat and make the heater more effective.

Zack has a great point, as I am going through the same thing with the upper tubes right now.  I have a 1-1/2" merged that someone made to work with flanged boxes, and the top pipes are in the way.

Otherwise, as long as the tubing through the box is the appropriate size for your engine your everything should be about the same as a regular merged, should it not?

Here's a photo of the 1 5/8 merged heater boxes.  I had to make my own connections for the heater hoses from the shroud.  It was a lot of work, but it works well in spite of some sharp turns in the connectors.  Hope you can make it out.

Good work Donny. I would still like to see the connector pipes go through the header rather than around them, so the heater works better. But I guess yours works well enough for Phoenix, right?? Wink

I've got a Berg 1 3/4 header and heater boxes going on my hot 2165. Were expecting 6-12 inches of snow this weekend.  Undecided

Those 2 & 4 pipes will clear the heater hoses...

No, but close Angry I'm gonna fab up some connectors like Donny's exhaust. I pulled some connectors of a stock muffler thinking I could come up with something but I think that route will be too much work.

same here, I'm using the dansk boxes with a cheap no name (empi?) merged header and the #4 and #2 pipes are in the way of the fresh air tubes, I haven't found yet any solution that works (and doesn't look like sh*t !!)

As with Donny's set up and the one Tiger fabbed, I think it is important to have the metal sleeves for the heater hoses.  Too much chance for heat damage with a non metallic hose there.

Simple... go to Tiger @ A-1 Muffler. End of problem. Get the boxes flanged, too. That's what I did and it turned out GREAT.

Damn, no kidding? I would have thought Berg would do it right. If the pipes were straight out of the heads, the heater junction boxes might be an option...

The Bergs make heater junction boxes.  I have seen them supplied with the merged heater box header.  Steve Hollingsworth has a set of 1 5/8  merged headers with heater boxes at his shop right now and the junctions were supplied.  If the header was purchased from the Bergs I would call them and ask what happened to the junctions.

Probably isn't so much a matter of not doing it right, but more so with 1-3/4" tubes there's only so much room.  I see the top primaries curve out as needed.  Its just a big header.

I talked to Tim and he said I should have received them and he'll get them on the way. I didn't even think to ask them. Thanks Donny, you save me a ton of work.

I don't see how the size of the header has anything to do with it(?). The junction pipes that Berg uses must be custom built. With a stock exhaust (or original EMPI, Treuhaft) the 2 & 4 pipes come straight out of the heads. So in theory, if the pipes come straight out (like most big headers do) you could modify a set of stock junction boxes, but it would probably be a real pain in the ass.
On second thought, as  I remember the Berg pieces are just a steel tube elbow that helps wrap around the exhaust pipes (instead of a factory type box). My Berg type 3 header had those, and I cut them off Roll Eyes

A-1's big heater boxes are lighter than factory ones and perform/function excellent. $125ea. was the last price that I heard.
