I'll take two!  Smiley

Seriously, I really think there is a need for that book. This is info, pics and stories that need to be documented. You say in the foreword of the first edition that it couldn't cover it all. I have been waiting for the second one since i read that..
Ok, so a lot of it is here and there on the net, but that's not the same. These kind of books need to be written by an enthusiast with a burning interest and knowledge about the subject, not just any journalist with $ signs in his eyes. And with all that raw material just waiting.. Well, what can I say.. The California Look Too!

My own example of the old book is so worn I will soon have to start using the NOS Grin one on the shelf..

OK guys, I'm starting to get the idea!  Cheesy

Russel and I have kicked around a couple of possibilities, one being a higher-dollar low-run edition (maybe 250 only), making it a true collector's piece. Another alternative is a low-cost, self-published deal, but I'd need to look into costs implications there. My problem is that none of the bigger publishers will touch it as a project as the first edition wasn't a sales success outside the obvious enthusiast market.  Although I wouldn't be looking to make a living wage out of doing this, bear in mind that while I was doing the first book, I was still in full-time employment on VolksWorld and Custom Car magazines, meaning that I had a regular income all the time. That book took about a year to do, plus six months production time. I also had an advance against sales to cover my costs (air fares, photo research etc), all of which I'd have to pay for out of my own pocket this time around. It is for this reason that I haven't been able to get round to doing a second version yet. But I will, trust me!

Keep them messages coming, Makes me feel wanted!  Grin

thats great news Keith,

for what its worth i'd love to see a high $$ coffee table type book, i'm sure it was Russell who posted about this before, and i agree it'd be a small price compared to what we spend on our cars.  which dont move in some cases. Cheesy

Keith, I think itīs great that you plan another book, as I have enjoyed a few of your older publications. But is 250 pieces really a realistic figure? If it is to be a hard cover(color) coffee table edition 250 pcs wouldnīt even cover the layout and printing costs unless it would be REALLY edpensive, or am I wrong? How many pcs did the first book sell the first two years?

Cheers, Johnny.

I vote for the high dollar version, but maybe 1000 so everyone who wanted it could get it. Or do a nice big hard copy first and if the demand is there do a smaller soft copy later.

I think a coffee table book would be great. Or even something along the lines of the Rodders Journal that was bi-annually or annually from UltraVW.
