Well as the title says guys - Where there any FACTORY twin/dual carb beetle's built  maybe somewhere other than europe or the US - Australia South Africa South America I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I am sure I remember seeing something in volksworld a few years ago  So any info/pic's would be cool  |

Well the Mach 1 is a special edition made in Belgium by D'ieteren.. During autumn 1964 Brussels based Belgian VW importer D'Ieteren planned to uprate 300 1200cc Beetles with Oettinger Okrasa tuned 1300/34 TSV engines. However due to pressure from Volkswagen only 29 were finally supplied. These 50hp engines featured counterweighted crankshafts, Solex 32 PBIC twin carburetors, separate cylinder inlet channels, sodium filled exhaust valves. Clutch was from Transporter.
Black interior dash and wheelChassis featured camber compensator, front stabiliser bar, uprated shock absorbers. Wheels were 6.5x15 of Porsche origin, GoodYear radial tires.
Mach 1 frontAvailable as Ruby Red (L456) or Java Green (L518) with optional white centre stripe and side front quarter sticker badges. Interior Black Leatherette, flat black instrument panel with 160km/h speedometer, tachometer and Koch oil temperature gauge. D'IeterenAlso black two spoke steering wheel from the Type 3 1500.

Cool cheers dude - I had heard of these little babies but I was hoping more for a REAL factory built setup Maybe I should open it up a little - how about factory type1/2 set-ups Brasilla's SP2's Rare optionial extra I am just sure I remember seeing a little history thing in VoWo Mag a few years back with a Bug with a nice dual Solex set-up but I can not find the article anywhere Any ideas guys |

are you talking about the der express kit in vowo don't remember that vw made some bug with dual carbs ?? i know there's the rally beetle with oettinger it had dual carbs the car was a special edition made only @3500 cars ps : not sure if the engine was offer by vw |

another factory beetle would be the ":champagne" edition which had i think dual 32s (solex)
not sure which countries had this available

1986 Last Series - Brazil may be a real dual carbs factory car   1303 style rear lights and wings. VW of Brazil offered the 'Fusca Ultima Serie' - Last Series Beetles - with both gasoline or alcohol 1600 engines. However, only the alcohol-powered ones had two carburetors. The 'single-port' cars, gasoline-powered, had an air-cleaner unlike the most recent Mexican models, and developed 53 hp |

maybe not as spectacular, but type3's had dual carbs from the factory  and think Ritter (or so) made a special piece to convert this setup on a beetle. type3 manifolds, special extention piece and original type3 carb. |

The oil filter system was abandoned because it didnt do much good after all. It was/is a "bypass" filtering system. It created issues with the flow to the factory cooler. - Berg tried to improove on the set up in the late 90íes. But was soon abandonded again because it didīnt catch up.
WRT factory twin carbed beetles. - Wasnt there an export model for the commonwealth countries ? I seem to remember to have seen one at a show in the UK about 15 years ago. supposidly 1600 cc. with twin 32 mm. Solex PDSIT (type 3) on tall manifolds.

torben , i think the champagne edition beetle is quite similar..
tall manifolds.. locally in my country (southern east asia) ive seen a few.. but most are rotted or hacked up for parts.. so sad

My wife's brother has one and he's having trouble finding parts in Brazil. I thought I might be able to locate some here in the US or online from a European vendor.
Failing that is it possible to convert a gas carb to alcohol?
Any information would be appreciated. We are going to visit in two weeks and I'd really like to have a solution for him when I get there.

VW Do Brasil didnīt follow the german/mexican evolution. When the alcohol version was introduced 1984 the engines received updated heads and dished pistons. The only differences between a gasoline and an alcohol engine in Brazil are the pistons and the jetting. Both engines uses dual 32 PDSIT. Parts should be available from any vw dealer in brasil. These engines were used in brazilian buses until 2006. |
