Title: Let's talk about seats
Post by: alex d on November 07, 2006, 13:23:02 pm
what do you like for seats? I recon that a pair of lowback buckets looks the part, right now I have the stockers as funds don't allow anything else  ;D

on the other hand, I don't feel really safe without headrests, that's when those Porsche seats become more and more appealing!

For the next car we're getting some of these:

In the Uk http://www.wwclassics.com/ does them but I couldn't get their page to load just now.

:)

The most comfortable seat I have ever sat in or "driven" in has to be the Beard seat. I don't have a set myself, but all our club members that do have them swear by them. They look great too.

High Beards..

Low Beards...

and in a Ghia...

I have some old British car seats in my Gasser ride. Not sure of what model they are from though. Comfy and cool looking but dangerous without a headrest. I am going to put a cage in with a drop down headrest.

Maybe some of our UK friends can tell me about these?  They are tagged "Paddy Hopkirk", but I can't find much info on them.

I'll make up some bases for them, change my door panels to black and run them for a while.

Well, eventhough I'm a Swede, an can fill you in on the Paddy Hopkirk tag. Famous rallye driver from "back-in-the-days". Irish born, perhaps most famous for winning the Monte Carlo Rallye in -64, in the famous 33 EJB registered Mini Cooper S. Starting the 2-year in a row of consecutive wins for Mini Coopers in Monte Carlo... they actually also "won" in 1966, but was disqualified for some issues with the headlights (!). Thats for the trivia. Yeah, I do have other cars apart from my Bug  :-[... A 1968 Austin "Coooper S wannabe" sitting in a barn, rusting away...  :'(

So, I guess these are some kind of rallye-seats for an english car...

cheers

Thanks 62 Ragtop.  I found his history with racing Minis and such, so I figured something like that.  I found very little about accessories bearing his name, however; other than nowadays it seems he has a line of bicycle carriers and such.

For me it has to be "Buggy Low Backs" they are so cheap like 70 quid a pair cheap, and a set of covers will only set you back 90 quid and with some foam brought from the local market you have a set of original looking comfortable seats and all for under 200 quid mine are even bolted to original VW seat runners - just like back in the 70's  8)

Yes very similar, but I don't think they are "nice" enough to be real Recaros.
