Title: Summer ride....
Post by: Christofe on April 28, 2008, 09:39:18 am
Time has come to present my summer 2008 ride...

The base is a 1960 turkish green car, restored 10 years ago and then stored in a corner of a body workshop.

Unfortunatly half of the body had primer spray marks , took my 3 days to have it all off.

The front bonet has been resprayed (had default).

The restauration work hve been done propoerly, body off, pan in epoxy etc...

The car is originally equiped with a Dehne fuel jauge, a motometer voltmeter and a VDO watch in the glovebox door.

Also has reclining seats.

Have now equiped the car with a sway-a-way, and a very nice set of centerlines... looks quite good I think.

Drives very smooth (the wife is happy)))))

so digging up this post for a few updates.... ;D

Found a long 8X31 gearbox, complete revision, its in the car.

Wit the the help of PAT(www.pat.be) also found the time to close the 1776, thanks to him for his time and advises... ;D

Engine is now in the car, 12v conversion is done except for the turn signals -) can't make them work.
It's an after august 60 so 61 model front turn light and small taill light.  ???

now I still need to work on the rear-end height and put some spacer on the back wheels...

and last but not least swap the front drums for disc brakes, beacause they won't keep up long !!!!

pics from the first drive this afternoon

it's an export model right ???

with my standart i've the same problem , i never understand how the rear lights works  ::) , my 61 doesn't have the semaphores  but had the front turns signal

yours made the 3 positions , lights ,brakes and, turn signals ??? normally in an european car (non export) <- 61 you have 3 wires in the comodo , and on the export model & <-aug 61 standart model you have  5 wires in the comodo

take an 60 US electrical wiring diagram

Thanks Fab !

Still I can't see why its not working

On the 12V relay I have the following connections

31 : Ground

49 : from the commode

49 B : from the commodo + signal to the dashboard.

I can only get to work permantly, meaning the turn signal goes on when using the commodo but it's not flashing !!!!!

Anyone having an idea, guys from the US should know the problem ?

Regards

Christofe

Bringing this thread up as the car is now at the bodywork shop for,

a ragtop roof section weld, remplace 4 wings by original vw's, replace the rear original decklid by a convertible version,

and a full respray ....pics will come soon

But my main question is : anyone on here knowing where I could buy a ragtop canvas like this one

Hi

I was asking the same question recently on a different forum and was directed to Ingrid Oppermann in Germany who trades under Himmelservice (as per a previous message posted for you) and was also given this link:
http://www.cabrio-holz.de/khm/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=11&lang=en

The majority of the feedback was too get the material you want and then get a good trimmer to make one up.

Hope that helps.  Will be a cool ride when finished.

Cheers

Stuart

The company KHM is just about a ten minute walk from my home. I've seen really nice jobs of them. But don't expect to get it cheap. but if you want I could ask them for a price.

cheers

Hi Christofe,
I was at KHM a few minutes ago. The PVC roofs are available in black, grey, beige but not in any green/blue or else.
The fabric roofs are available in the colors like the convertible tops. But also no turquoise or bright green or else available.

If you want to go for a black one, then contact me.

Time to dig up this post .... ;D

Car is finished, made it by the road to EBI 4 without troubles.

Friendfound me a NOS ragtop cover a bad camberg, looks sweet !!!

And with the second baby int hte house took me almost two month to finally do a proper photo shoot

enjoy it here....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/40253960@N02/sets/72157627321164873/

and you might also recognize it here !

http://das.skynetblogs.be/

That's it all done in one year, coming winter it will get a new gearbox, Berg gearbox mount, berg engine mount and maybe the 1915 cc from the orange beetle if I find time enough to build a new racing engine for my '72

That's all folks ;D
