I have a lot of memories about Dean, he made me a awesome set of Dynosoaur heads for my street car back in 84 (I think) my first set of spread port type heads for my 2275. 42 x 37.5 valves (big for a street engine at the time).
I remember one time we were headed to a bug o Rama in Sacramento and decided to go route 99 instead of I5 for a change of scenery. We came across Dean and his daughter Marla on the side of the road with the car on the trailer and the tongue of the trailer on the ground. We stopped to help and he told us what happened, they were going along and the ball came off the hitch, I don't remember why the chains didn't work (or if he had them hooked) but the trailer came off and passed them in the left lane, he hit the brakes and the car and trailer cut in front of them and went in the ditch. great part was the car and trailer didn't even get hurt! We always enjoyed racing with him and Marla, great VW people.
The purple buggy was always fun to look at and see what was going on with the motor that week.
