Title: Scandinavian Cal-look Classic 2006
Post by: Trond Dahl on March 01, 2006, 13:28:47 pm
SCANDINAVIAN CAL LOOK CLASSIC

"Are you ready for some serious action dude?" If so, come to our two-day event held on Gardermoen International Raceway on the 26th-27th August 2006. Situated just 30 minutes north of Oslo, this is where numerous European drag race records has been clocked during recent years!
This year Scc is a joint venture between the Motor magazine Right on (http://www.righton.no) and the "Cal Look Mafia". With a powerful partner such as Right on we have gained access to possibilities which has earlier been economical impossibilities, the best ever??

THE RACING

We will be racing 402 meters with fully professional timing equipment, you get every last little detail about you run! So bring your hot Cal Looker and your driving
licence and you can go racing on northern Europe’s fastest drag strip, with a traction and a preparation to die for, and perfectly flat! All you need is clothes
that cover your entire body, gloves and helmet. The car needs a seatbelt(s) and license plates with the appropriate tags. DOT slicks are allowed also on street
cars, and stingers is accepted, but a muffler is a good backup if the judges should get cranky late in the day. Everyone can buy drag racing licences on site. This applies to ALL nationalities.

Special regulations comes into play if you drive a convertible/uses nitrous/ or have a car faster than 12.00, check the complete rules for street cars here (http://www.righton.no/Teknisk%20reglement.htm).

For the first time we also allow the ET Class, this means you don't have to have licence plates to partake in the action, you do however need a drag racing license
for yourself AND the car. If you are this serious about racing you know the rules. We will see some serious fast cars in this class... VW's and other... expect
plenty of 9 AND 8 second cars. You won't belive your eyes!

But don't think you have to be a "serious" contender to run, this event is open to any one, who has the fastest sub 1600 cc car? The fastest single port car? ...and
who is the fastest among you friends? Remember they can enter in their oh-so-fast-and-reliable-Ford or their "fierce" Opel Tigra GT... and you can leave them in the
dust, priceless!!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask us (j.h.ulstad@sgull.com).

THE SHOW AND SHINE

Every bug that enters thru the gates this weekend will been be considered for either of these awards... but don't stress it... it's just for fun!

Quickest Gasser
Quickest Blown
Ass up, Nose Down
All show, No go
Crazy!
Smoking!

The winners will be presented with our special 70's prices!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The gates opens 09.00 both days. And the racing will commence around 11.00 and end 17.00 on Saturday and 16.00 Sunday.

Camping on site is allowed and there’s both WC's and showers, but the standard is basic. Should you prefer to sleep in a nice bed, there
are plenty of Motels and Hotels in the neighbourhood. This is two of many:

Gardermoen Gjestegård (http://www.gg-gardermoen.no/)
Rica Hotel Gardermoen (http://www.gulesider.no/gsi/tolink.do?itemId=LISTP&custId=&lineId=Z0GNRZYM&bcId=782&url=/companyDetails.do&fkode=Z0GNRZYM&bkode=782&firma=Gardermoen)

Regarding food, there will be hot dog stands and a huge beer tent, so you won't starve. The Cal-look mafia will supply big grills, so if you bring something to
grill we can have a nice barbeque/party. There are stores within 5 minutes of the venue if you need to top up your supplies, heck there's even a Mc Donald’s within
a couple of minutes drive.

PRICES

Enterance (one day) 150,- kr / 20 EUR
Weekend pass: 300,- kr / 35 EUR
License for both days: 250,- kr / 30 EUR
Starting fee: 100,- kr / 13 EUR
Parking and admission to the grand stands included, all prices pr person.

See you there!

Doesn`t matter if only two cars is racing as long as there is a lot of cars and people coming! Knowing that your cars is among the most beatiful looking cars around I`m sure you guys will get a lot of attention  8)

Elnef, I race cars - not bathtubs  ;)  I hope you get your box ready to SCC and I`m looking forward to see it pulling wheelies again! As you know we have a buggy with almost similar specs here in Norway - that would have been a race to watch for sure! I will try to get EBB over.

Hi to all!
After my engine blow at Bug Run I have checked the damages and fortunately they are not that bad!
The crankcase has a big hole over connecting rod nr 4 where the piston left the building! Have to use another case obviously.
The heads are repairable and two valves have to be replaced. They are beeing fixed at the moment.
The crankshaft and 3 rods are reusable. I have fortunately been able to locate one replacement rod, 5.5 inches Porsche bearings, thanks to Jyrki!
New cylinders and pistons have to be dug out from the spare parts department.....

A second damage was also encountered: The fan exploded! I now realise why people make such a fuss about welding them....
9100 rpm on the tach was a little bit too much for the fan.

There is a lot of work ahead before the engine is up and running again and I have 4 weeks of vacation ahead and those are the only 4 weeks/year I do not work on my or other peoples VW:s.

It thus seems that unfortunately I will not be able to race at SCC this year.

So bevare and see you there in 2007!

Have a nice rest of the summer!

Hi Kotten and thank you for your excellent hospitality at Bug Run this year.

I`m glad to hear that the damages where not that bad and that your able to reuse some of the parts. Even though your not able to race at SCC 2006 it would be nice if you took the trip anyway so that we can return the hospitality.

Have a nice summer vacation!

What kind of piston left the building?

Title: Re: Scandinavian Cal-look Classic 2006
Post by: Kotten on July 05, 2006, 12:55:11 pm
It was a Cima/Mahle 94 mm. Just the usual big bore set-up.

The crank to rod ratio is not really optimal for those rpm:s. 86 stroke and 5.5 inch rod is pehaps not the best combination to rev that high.

I have to do something about the rev limiter!

Sadly John need some hours in the garage before SCC, but hope the mood is high and I know him..! He would do all it takes the get ready  ;)

About SCC:

I have a question..!

How much does it cost for a kid in the entrance fee for this SCC weekend..?

Thanks

I guess it will cost the same for kids as for adults, 150 nok each day. They will be charging the entrance fee both saturday and sunday. ???

For racers it will be an additional 250 nok to race. This is for insurance and so on..

I dropped someone of at the airport today, so on my way back home I decided to stop by and check on the track.
A bit rainy today, but I still got this good feeling inside when I walked up the quartermile.
The smell of track-bite was teasing my nose, and my shoes had a tendency to stick to the surface :)
The pit area and so on might not look the part, and yes it is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by forrest and all, but remember this is one of the fastest dragstrips in Europe.
If the weather plays along, SCC will be one hell of a weekend!!!
See you there folks!!

PS: I heard some of the british guys complain about the lack of a return lane at Bitburg, so just so you know there will be no waiting at the top end at GIR, lol

Sadly Jussi´s piston made it to the outside word on Sundays testings. 11,059 192.3km/h 1.49 60ft.
So no SCC for Jussi´s split.

Jukka made a new record with his panelvan:13.62 158km/h.

Very sad that Jussi will not be coming to SCC with his car but there is always a next year you know. Good thing that some Fins are coming over for a good time at least :-)

Guys,i know this is a bit off a strange question but is it easy to by bags of ice near the track? cheers richie,uk
There is a McDonalds just five minits from the track, ask them for ice.

Yes that`s a good tip...and you can also buy plastic bags of ice in almost any grocery shop here - and those cubes works wonder in the GT afterwards as well.

The weekend at SCC was amazing. Friday started out a little bit wet, but as the cars started rolling in, the weather earlier that day was soon forgotten and we ended up having a nice evening.

Saturday would have been a bummer if it wasn’t for all the high class cars to look at, all the Norwegian, Finish, English, Swedish and Danish people to talk with, the weather in the evening and a good time round the bonfire even tough Baboon burnt his socks on it :o

Sunday was better than I could hope for. It started out slow with water problems on the track, but when it was dry, the car really took of. Lots of very fast driving and new records for many people. Unfortunately for some the famous grip on GIR destroyed some gearboxes this year to, but that’s just and excuse for coming back next year and try again.

What I’ll remember best from the weekend? Maybe Romans awesome power wheelies and amazing times. Maybe Kalle’s (aka Beetlebug) face when Jyrki went down the track in his car. Maybe the line up with cal-lookers, gassers etc side by side. Maybe all the great times and personal best from Sunday. Or maybe, God forbid, the new world record for streetcars sounding 7.700 by a BMW.

One thing’s for sure, I have to use the famous words “I’ll be back” when SCC 2007 take place next year  8)

Anders Roman going up on the back wheels...   this is the "10.9" run...   Gardermoen is a GREAT track when its dry... but it stinks when wet, the racing continued until seven in the evening on sunday. VS Motor got a new world record with his M3 BMW... 7.7 on the 402... Fingers crossed for next year everyone.

Hi VW friends,

I wish to say thank you to you all for making SCC 2006 a truly fantastic event for me!

Fins; finally we got the chance to return you hospitality at BugRun and now I know for a fact what Finnish Sisu is, and yes, it did make me go faster!
Jyrki; It was truly a pleasure to watch you race my car and taking my personal best in your first attempt in a for you totally unknown car. It is useful to see and hear you own car on the strip. I hope you know that this means that I will have to take your 65 for a spin at VW Open :-)

My car know rests peacefully in it`s garage and if the sun shins today I will take it out for a spin, turn on the stereo and drive it to my favourite burger place - I will be proud as a olympic champ when I drive it because now I know I have a 12 sec. street car. :-)

Again thanks to you all,

Best rgs,
Kalle aka BeetleBug

Enclosed is a tribute to Jyrki`s driving;
