Title: AFR for E85 and Turbo at WOT!!
Post by: Tom G. on June 09, 2010, 22:33:46 pm
Hello,

I want to know of the guys who are running fuel injection and turbo which are the common AFR values for Aircooled engines which use E85 (ethanol)?

My Wideband ZEITRONIX only handle 9,0-22 AFR. I have read the best AFR for high performance and E85 is about 6.8 AFR.

But perhaps some users has better results in leaner conditions?

I am happy to hear some opinions :-)

Regards
Tom

Use Lambda! AFR gets confusing real quick.
The Innovate LM1 and LM2 can be set for ethanol to boot.

A 9.0 AFR will give you a 15% rich for E85. I would try to keep it right at 9.0 -- rich is good

Normally 14.7 is perfect for gas and most guys try to keep their turbo cars running rich at 11.5-12.5

What he said! use Lambda is the same what ever fuel you use. we shoot for 0.79 - 0.8

Yes this is true it makes me confusing...

But you and the other said, that i should use lambda...If i use lambda for example 0,75 for WOT, than it is only the oxygen residal content for normal gasoline or?

If i wants to calibrated or messure for E85 the lambda value has to be lower?! I can not convert values in my widebandsystem for Ethanol...:-((

 :)

I`m in the same boat as you Tom. A old habit it hard to get rid off and since I have always used AF I prefer to still use AF on my new engine running on E85

I use a Innovative LM 1 which is set to gasoline and maybe later I will get my head around the lambda values. I aim for 11.2 to 12.2 on my engine. Try finding a dyno where they use Lambda on their equipment.

Good luck.

Tom, if you use Lambda, its the same for all fuel's, you dont have to convert anything. you can swith your LM1 to read just Lambda.
