Title: California Blue Plates
Post by: Zach Gomulka on July 02, 2016, 07:05:36 am
I'm wondering if you California guys could help me out with this... With Californa black plates I know the plate started out in 1963 with AAA-111, and ended in 1968 with ZZZ-999. Did blue plates follow a similar format? I'm curious to know what would have been used in the early 70's.

I'm nowhere near California, but I got a blue plate with a frame many years ago. I peeled off the date stickers back to 1975. The plate number is 410MVH so I suppose they did follow a similar format, just numbers first instead.

Zach.. I'm not sure of the number sequence. Here's a little trivia though. The letters in CALIFORNIA were spaced further apart at some point after the start of blue plates. Some early blue plates will have the letters spaced closer together.

You cn see the difference in the spacing here:

Here.. This answers your question Zach. YES they followed the same numeric sequence... just reversed, beginning with 000AAA  (According to Wiki)
