Title: Frontrunners, wich size??
Post by: sven on March 09, 2009, 22:29:52 pm
Hi,

I have to order a set of frontrunners but I'm confused about the size.
Currently I'm running Michelin 135 FS 15, this is +/- a outer diameter of 23.97", still I see that the most used frontrunner slick is 22"x3.5x15??
Can anybody advise my.

Thx.

Sven

I am using 24/4.5/15 M/T its really personal preference, the smaller diameter is supposed to help R/T i believe

cheers richie

Thx. Richie,
I gues R/T stands for reaction time?
Maybe this is intresting for a start like we had at SCC ( Orange-green), what system do they use at Santa Pod?

Sven.

Sven.

The start procedure we used at SCC is called a pro start and I will be very suprised if they do not use the same start procedure at Santa Pod. For street legal races we have the possibility to choose handicap start, yellow, yellow, yellow - green.

We call that the "sportsman tree" - the green comes on 0.5 seconds after the last yellow, whereas the Pro tree has the green light coming on 0.4 seconds after the three yellows come on together. We use the Pro tree in O/FF, but the E/T bracket classes use the Sportsman tree.

Back on topic, You can also adjust front tyre pressures to alter reaction time - the harder the tyres, the quicker reacting the car.

google the word "roll out" and it will explain everything you need to know about tire size. There is a whol explanation of how your roll out affects your reaction time and your elapsed time. depending on the tree, your application and class you are racing, will depict the type of tire you need to run. I just recently spent a whole night reading up on this. its quite interesting. BTW, the tire size that Richie is running is near close to run of the mill for most applications guys are running.

Seems their is alot to learn, I will need a lot of runs to test it all.
