Hi,

I was wondering if any of you are rolling the 145/65/15 smart tyres up front or the good old 145 R15 (firestone or michelin) ?
Don't you have to go real low not to end up with a large "empty fender"?

Any front angles pics of the 145/65's up front are appreciated as well  Wink

Cheers!

Too short for a Cal Looker! If you want Cal Look, but also want a modern tire, use a 175/65 off a new Mini, or a 185/60. They are the same height as a 145, so from the side, it looks proper.

hmmmh,I personaly like the 145/65 !

That`s how they look on a 5.5 fuchs:

I don`t think that a tiresize really says if it`s cal or not...

But decide self...

But you have to go LOW otherwise there is too much space.Sadly I have got no pic on a beetle.

Best greetings,Felix

Yeah, i suppose this dutch oval is a good example:

very low up front and even raised 1 spline in the back (seriously!)

it's just that the smart tyres are so easy to get here... and everywhere i go they can't supply firestone 145s anymore...

p.s. do the mirrors, apart from the tyres, exclude him even more for cal-look?

That car is more "Resto-Cal" then "Cal-Look", IMHO.
And you said it- you must lower the front alot to get the tire to fill the wheel opening. Cal Look should be lowered sensibly, not exessively. I feel a standard 145 height tire (appox 24") does this perfectly.

Also, a 175/65 fits a 4.5" rim beautifully!

yeah, i guess the robri set and right mirror blew his chances  Tongue

175/65 is a good alternative, problems is i wanna stick to my 165 Firestones a bit longer... So, none of you guys using 145/65?

I might be able to get my hands on some second hand michelin XZX 145, how's that? Or are those dangerous old ...?

XZX's are a great cal look tire! I will be using them on my GTV beetle- 145/165.

my car wear 145XZX at the front and 195 pirelli at the rear.
for the smart ones, it is goog for the resto cal, not for the callook.
what about moroso drag special tires for the front, cool no?

I agree with Zach, the red car looks more like "resto-cal" to me, and yes you don't have to lowered your car to the max.

In my opinion you'll get more comfort driving the 145 R15 from Firestone then the smart tyres.
If you cann't buy 145 R15 anymore, try the 155 R15 from Firestone, they doesn't give any different looks from the 145 ...

Try to buy some secondhands tyres ... it's difficult to buy new ones.
