Hi all  - should be an easy answer for the right person

How are multi stage pumps such as pauter/autocraft/peterson connected internally ?
From pictures I see the pump bodies are made of sections but are the gears/shafts one piece or connected ?

In basic terms, can a 3 stage pump be made into a 4 stage by simply buying/adding another section ?

Thanks
Darren

Ps, I'm looking for a 4 stage used pump if anyone has one. Depending on the answer, I would consider a 3 stage too

The shafts are one-piece and the input shaft is keyed for the gears. If you had two 2-stage pumps, you could assemble the stages into a 3 or 4-stage pump if you had custom input and idler shafts made.

So it is possible to add stages but a bit more than just bolting parts together.
I did suspect it wouldn't be easy

Thanks Stripped66 for your answer
