Hey Dieds your heads use long reach 3/4" plugs I suggest NGK B7ES copper core
you can use the Petronix with MSD. MSD makes spark hotter, the Petronix is just a "timing device" it does nothing to increase spark output. Basically eliminates point maintenance....that's it.
The MSD increases voltage to coil primary and in turn cranks up secondary output.
gap the plugs @ .035"

Thanks for responses!
I'm still interested in an aftermarket 36hp fanshroud. I see many DKP guys run them and other people with HIPO engines. So, they cannot be that bad, right?

as long as you are not using Berg Fan Shroud Mounted Linkage the aftermarkets are alright but not great in the fitting department there is no mounting hole for the coil or berg linkage plus the aftermarket shrouds have an offset gen/alternator hole if you use berg linkage you will have to slot all the holes in the linkage to make it fit.

No big deal IMHO, You have to slot the hole in the middle, and make mounts for the coil. Works just fine for me.

yeah, i found out about the holes on the shroud i used on my (failed) kadron 1600 last summer. but i'm using they tayco/bugpack IDA linkage and i'm planning on mounting coil on the firewall.

about the fitting, there are these spacer to go in between the house and the cylinder tins. might as well get those then.

still, do they not have inferior cooling performances?

I run an aftermarket 36 shroud on my car.  drilled a hole and welded a nut before powder coat for berg linkage. I have no cooling issues with mine. As far as original I don't think you'll find an original 36 Doghouse shroud. They don't exsist.

after some bad news about already acquired parts that turned out useless, and lots of other costs that i have to incur, i have slowed down the pace of building this engine.

lately, i bought a cagero oil cooler, got a 36hp fanshroud and some small parts.

i still need a few small parts;
i'm looking for an electric fuel pump. i'm using IDAs and stock fuel lines. which one is recommendable?

also, i have not yet decided whether to run teflon clips or not.
are copper exhaust gaskets any good? i'm thinking of getting those.

I hope none of "my" old parts have been deemed "useless." I know about the rods. Any other issues?

The tru arc clips or spirol lox work fine, but spirol lox can be a real bitch to get out.
I use high temp silicone on my header instead of gaskets.

Stock Fuel line with electric pump to feed IDA's,  are you nuts ?
Cagero, that must have cost a small fortune.
Teflon Buttons, no p.
I use thick paper gaskets with high temp silicone.

some people with well-known cars run stock fuel lines and a stock fuel pump to feed their IDAs Wink
cagero coolers aren't that expensive, they cost more than the average 72 plate cooler but do come with a nifty louvered mount!

high temp silicone, will loctite 574 do?

does nobody run these copper gaskets? they don't cost that much more...

Died, do yourself a favour and run at least -6 fuel lines. It's all gas volume! And you will not lean your engine out that quick.
HT Silicone, as long as it is orange or red.
I did run coppers, but got tired of annealing them every time, plus after the second use they are completeley flat and don't seal that good anymore.

ditto. Why risk holeing your 94's and blowing heads off by leaning your engine out? At least go to 7mm VW hose or as Harry said, AN6. You can create an expensive problem by trying to cheap out on hoses?

The copper gaskets NEVER worked on my car. I use Peramtex High temp copper on header flange and bolt to heads....never any leak.

I think you are worrying a little too much dude  Wink Smiley just get some 8mm braided fuel line from ANY vw parts place (ie PATS etc) and run that the WHOLE length of the car - its what me Gav and Rob have all done and it works PERFECTLY  Smiley

You really are not gonna hole a piston just by having a standard type fuel line - I might be wrong but I think that has alittle more to do with jets, tunning, timing etc etc etc  Wink Smiley

Just look at what they "Used" to run with Smiley

yes 8mm VW hose or BMW hose will work fine. No need for expensive AN6 braided hoses. Just get matching banjos for your IDAs and a tee.

But stock 5mm hose will restrict your engine at load and create lean/heat problem. Been there, had the problem, fixed the problem.... a long time ago.  Cool

Just did the plumbing on my engine - used Weatherhead hose - marine approved - double wall - 3/8 hose = 6an - easy to get push on fittings and very durable - very easy to use.

i have a fuelpump (electric one) and i might consider swapping back to a original one, but i have a fuel injection case and no hole to put a pump, but it has less problems regarding too much pressure. i think Jim kurlinski runs a stock pump on his 2.2l engine. so it can work. but i read somewhere here on the lounge or in a magazine an article about setting the pump up so it will run as efficient as possible. and i got hoses from Gates, they are good quality and fit tight. don't really care for braided ones as they look messy with regular clamps and get dirty real fast. and they are not better then the rubber ones.

still need those teflon buttons? i wee them in all the catalogs were you can buy parts.
