Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: June 04, 2009, 09:53:56 am »

This is a shot of 48IDAs stacked like an endless sea of shiney horsepower makers.  I was at Art Thraen's house in Salt Lake City one year visiting and he had them laid out for a magazine article being done on modifying IDAs to make them driveable.  I could not resist taking the picture while he had endless pairs setting on the table.

Before you ask, this was not a photoshop modification. He had at least 10-15 pair of IDAs he was doing at the time.

Here is another great shot from the 1997 BERG CRUISE from So Cal to VOA headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. You can see our BERG CRUISE banner in the circular entry way of the VOA Corporate Headquarters.

My teal old teal 67 is in the shot (2110cc motor), Art Thraen's 66 (2 litre motor),the BERGLAR, Don Bulitta's 66 (2 litre motor), Jim Kikuchi's red Ghia, Matt Joy's oval, and many other cruisers who joined us as we went from So Cal, over 2500 miles to Michigan. It is another of my fondest memories in the hobby.

The second shot is one of my wife driving my 67 with DEE BERG as her passenger. I was riding in Art Thraen's old 66 bug when I clicked off the picture.

Here is another favorite of mine.  Don Bulitta and I are on our way to Salt Lake City to meet up with Art Thraen, Steve Hollingsworth and others for the 1997 Berg Cruise to Detroit, Michigan. It is 107 in Las Vegas and we are at Boulder Dam taking a rest. I had "0" sleep the night before leaving and was really burnt out. Don and I drove our cars through the blistering hot desert with 2 litre motors and had no over heating issues. Of course, due to the exceptional tuning.  :-)

Enjoy. Two lookers taking a look at the dam.

I take crappy pictures. But this has got to be the favorite one of my car. It just looks fun, doesn't it? Smiley

One of my favourites is this one from Sacramento in 2007. The Saturday evening there was awesome and this was taken late during the session.

Nice pic Matt. You have quite a few fine shots. I think I remember that night. Not sure if I was running the Zwit when I completley ruined the motor on the last pass of the night for the TnT.

Thanks!, Some of them may be Sal's though, especially recently. You had the Zwit there and I don't remember seeing it out on track on the Saturday so that would make sense. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of it on the Saturday and I was wanting to as it's a '53 I'd like to have! Awesome car.

Unfortunately I don't, it was a great car. That is Bryan67's old car, (well, one of many Grin). He might have more.
I did not take too many of pics even though I use to see it all the time. Now I wish I had.
