Title: choose the good shifter
Post by: speedwell on November 26, 2007, 17:05:48 pm
here's a scan of vw greats report: how to choose the best shifter for your volkswagen  ;D
I know that some among you will tell me speedwell will play with your old-craps things, anything is not worth a good  berg shifter, but this is for the people who want an assembly like at the time  ;)

Too bad someone has not come out with a high quality Hurst clone. CSP is close but does not have the lockout ring.

From what Ive driven- Stock with quick shift... hated it. Scat Drag Fast... hated it. Hurst Indy... hated it (but got used to it). I really love my E-Z-R, but Berg is still the best ::)

 :D :D :D

as lids has stated on Monkiboys DDS shifter thread.........i had one about 10 years ago and hated it.

it was hell on my false fingernails, and always had to go for the "jessica" manicure, which wasn't really my style, (the one with the blunt cut nails,) in order to speed shift properly.

Like most things Berg, its a function over form deal. Just look at their linkage... or their IDA manifolds (yuck!).

Yeah, but the older polished handles looked so much better than the squared off black things they come with now. And the shifter is one of the items you come into contact most in a VW. It has to feel right in your hand.

WoW what a nice scan !
Never heared of the MR Gasket shifter...It looks very "domestic" ;)

Here is a german shifter, it was promoted via Auto Motor& Sport in the late 60`s
(sorry for the poor quality)
