Title: mid mount for gearbox
Post by: wolfswest on February 01, 2013, 12:31:13 pm
Hi guys,

I was wondering if there are any mid mounts for the gearbox on the market that doesn't require welding?  if so: links?  brands?

AND are they any good?  or is it a makes you feel good part that doesn't work like the ones you need to do some welding?

Dem

On my wife's 67 we have a "Mohr style" mid mount, that bolts to the nose cone like all the others but  presses against the chassis. Can't comment on how it works yet as the car hasn't been on the road since it was fitted. Ill try and get a link/ picture for you.

Here, like this-

Mine wasn't bad to fit at all. What gave you problems Peter?

I've been using an original Mohr Performance mid-mount for just over seven years in my street/strip Beetle: http://www.mohrprf.com/products.htm .  It was a straight forward bolt-on installation...here's a picture:

It has been installed for over 500 quartermile drag races on two different tranaxles (different gear ratios) without any issues.  I also have a Berg engine support bar installed.  I'm a terrible driver, so the Beetle launches can be pretty sketchy sometimes, but I think the mid-mount has no doubt helped prevent nose cone or front mount issues ;)

So it's actually not tied into the frame horns but prevents torque twist acting as a counter lever?

Here is a mount I make, Its meant to have a peice welding to flange on frame horns to make wider. I had pan painted and tranny installed before I started to make them. Next time trans comes out will weld peices in and bolt rubber mounts through. Hope this helps in some way

I have installed the Danny's Gab Fab mid mount on my pan. The quality is top notch and after welding the small flanges and drill them, it fits perfectly.
The design is very nice too :)
