Title: What's the smoothest fuel pump out there?
Post by: Jon on May 13, 2007, 18:23:54 pm
Iīm so sick of my bulky noisy blue Holley. I have been looking at Carter pumps, but the Summit site don't say how far down you can adjust them (3,5 psi?).
Is there anything self regulating out there? Any hints appreciated.

Facet and Pierburg . They work  well and are not so noisy

I use the one from CB performance....  delivers 3,5psi selfregulating and is quiet

Thanks guys, to bad it costs an arm and a leg to get these smal items shipped from CB.
Udo do you have any model names on those pumps? And where do I find them?

I have a Facet Red Top (140l/h) and this is not a quiet pump. It`s not as noisy as the Holley but not far from it. You can buy them from http://www.kollevold.no/facet.htm. My brother is using a cheap, selfrugelating electrical pump and you`re not even able to hear it when the engine is not running. If I remember correctly it`s a Biltema pump and looking at their web page I noticed they have several pumps delievering the pressure you want. Cost is from 199,- NOK to 299,- NOK.

Not sure if you want a Biltema item mounted on your car though.......

I like a noisy fuel pump as you know when it fails, makes for a quick diagnosis. Pump or fuse. Simple and stupid.  Don't even have to get out of the car. :)

Iīm running a pierburg pump for years now without any problems. You donīt have to use a pressure regulator with them as thereīs a model available thatīs designed for use with carbs. You can buy the pump at CSP:

Thanks Tobi, there is only one Pierburg available there so I guess its the one you are talking about. What size hoses fit on there?

Biltema might be a option Kalle, with those prices I can run two... or maybe three ;-) After all Biltema is the scandinavian Empi :-)

The CB pump is made by Carter I believe. Maybe a search for a Carter rotary style fuel pump will do you some good? Its worth a shot...

Hallo

Yes , there is only one avaliable . 8 mm hoses fit on there . But remember that they only work up to about 170 - 180 main jets . I have 2 of them in my racecar and they work fine , all street racer and street cars have this pump and works good. Don't know your engine size  ???

Udo, the engine is a 2176 with a FK 89, the heads are JPM modified CE CNC 48x40 with 12:1 CR. It's being fed by two 51,5 IDAs. It will be used on the street and might see some drag racing action to.
Two of the black pumps might do the trick, but two from CSP is also tempting. Are you running two separate fuel lines Udo? I have just one, but its 12,5 internally so I think it could flow enough  :-X

No turning  back on this one........shame to put it on the car as it is a beuty......................but the sound is cool, just purring a little louder then the electricity in the cables when the electrons are moving around.......Oh it delivers fuel like there is no tomorrow too.....http://www.holley.com/12-125.asp

I have 2 pumps and one 12mm fuel line . That's enough for your engine . And you don't need to adjust any regulator  ;)
