Title: Disaster! Broken Alum case at oil pressure sensor. Help please!?
Post by: Richierich56 on March 04, 2018, 01:01:02 am
Ive had a disaster with my new CB Aluminium case. Took plugs, oil pressure switch etc out to crank for oil pressure. On putting oil pressure switch back in and whilst tightening it, this happened:

The switch wasnt cross threaded or overtightened or anything - i guess it must just have been a weak area in the casting or something.

Does anyone have any advice on how i can sort this? Preferably without having to pull the motor.

Thanks in advance fellas

Rich

I’ve used JB Weld on a similar broken gearbox fitting and it’s held for over 5 years with no leaks.

How did you do it Neil? Will the fact this is the pressure switch make a difference?

I drilled it out and added a larger fitting and screwed a pressure sending into the fitting.

That happened to me a couple years ago on a aluminum case and the sender wasn't that tight. I had a friend weld it up and I drilled and tapped it and put in a time sert.
