I don't know if I ever have seen a chopped Notch. Visualizing it I think it may be waaay too ugly? I don't know.

What do you think?

They are ugly... but all the ones Ive seen werent done right, IMO. They usually stretch the roof out too much. I think the way to do a Notch is to not cut the rear window at all and just lean it forward instead of adding metal and stretching the roof out. I think a mild 3" chop with the rear window leaned forward would look bitchin'.

It makes them look like they have a big nose. Now if you chopped and sectioned it, maybe. A square looks pretty good chopped. I have not seen a fasty chopped yet, but I think it could be done too.

I don't care for chop top VWs.  Sorry that's my story and I am sticking to it.  Notchbacks are worse than Bugs.  I don't care how well they are done.  Chog jobs are for 32 fords.....

A Fasty would be a nightmare to make look good. You wouldnt want to lean the rear window down or else you would put a "kink" in the back... and leaning the whole rear section down would be an ungodly amount of work. You would have to stretch the roof... and given the low angle of the rear window, you would have to stretch it a whole lot. I dont think it could be done tastefully.

The only chop top Bug that I really liked was the one from SCS.  It was a Pro Sedan car and it was chopped only 1 1/2 inches.  Until it was next to a stock bodied car you couldn't tell what was done.  That was a long time ago.

I am going to disagree with you there. A properly chopped bug looks really cool. But like choppng a 40 ford, it is really hard to do right. Otherwise you lose the curve of the roof. Tar Babe is still probably the best chop I have seen on a bug. I have always wanted to do a similar chop, but I am scared I would end up not fitting into the car lol.

The body is out of proportion to the top. Take an inch or two out of the body and it would look right. a 1/3 top to 2/3s body is about right. (Unless you are building a Pearson Brothers coupe clone.)

It was built by the same guy who built the M&M green chop.

Don't care for chopped Notchbacks, though.

a notch really looks like a grandpops car, so it should be kept like that. a wolf in sheepsclothes. a notch and fastback for that matter have long high sidepanels compared to a bug that has the wings that give it a whole different curve. i have looked at a few choptops and the roof is too small compared to the body.
i have thought about a chopped fastback to have that porsche look even more, but it won't work, because of the wings. the porsche has rounder, bulkier fenders that give it a totally different look.

in an old volksworld, maybe early/mid 90's there's a shot of a red angle chopped fastback drag race car at a USA race meet, i thought it looked great.

imagine a full on 70's style cal-look, india red, dechromed, angle chopped fastback, T-bars, bare empi 8 spokes, heavy rake, 1piece windows.......

it might make a nice change.............

Chopped Beetles can look awesome, but if they're not done right they look awful!

There's a chop build looming on the horizon for the club, I guarantee the proportions will be 100% and it'll look superb. Oh and it won't have a rag top roof either, as he says that's cheating  Wink
