Been in touch with Nao Fujita in Tokyo and he has told me the all of the staff at Flat 4 are OK. So that is GOOD NEWS. Here's what he said;

Thanks! We are OK here!

As I type now, still shake sometime!! After 9 hours of initial large quake!! We are having earth quake almost every 10min.
So, due to this, all metro in Tokyo is shut down!! and highway is closed also.

Well, it was scary being inside building.  see photo for the inventry!

well, I'm fine and my family is all OK.( No phone line...it seems like E-mail is the only way of comunication.

They say waves from 1 to 2 meters in Hawaii now, and from 2 to 4 meters will hit French Polynesia.

Very Sad. Our thoughts to those in distress. Watched in horror on news last night as those waves came in. Nao, glad to hear you and yours are OK.
I'm supposed to drive up the coast tomorrow a bit north of Santa Barbara in the Bug tomorrow..... we'll see what happens.
Best wishes

Wow!

Fabs where do you find all pics?

And all we can do is sit and whait for it to happen. Hope itīs not going to be as many lost in this wave as in the IndianOcean in 2004.
Thankīs  Richard Roth for bringing such a big earthy thing up on our little forum. Just tells us how small we are on this planet.

Thinking of all of you out there. Hope all is well and safe.

It was unbelievable to watch on TV last night...
Satoshi (Street VWs Magazine) is OK, too. He was stuck in his office, like Nao, due to the lack of public transportation.
Walked to the beach this morning (don't worry - we're about 50m above sea level!) and the big waves expected have not hit.
We're really thinking about the people/friends in Japan. Good luck to all!

Local reports say a  Klamath, Ca. man taking pictures of the incoming tsunami was swept out to sea and presumed dead. I had planned on driving out to Crescent City and Brookings, Or. but I think I'll stay home now. I heard they have a lot of damage.

Some also know Masatake "Mike" Ishiko, photographer and VW nut. He is right now in Copenhagen, wanted to fly home yesterday. Now he has to stay another three days (as of yesterday) in Denmark, before he can go back to his family. Wife and kids are safe so.

Let's hope and pray that there will be no nuclear issues, as two of the atomic plants seem to have major problems.

What a horrible day in history of humankind, especially for our friends in Japan!

Mike's place I believe is a way out from the very centre of Tokyo, let's hope there's no significant damage, hopefully should be ok??  During my time in Japan Mike took me to Sendai where the dragstrip is  - to see VW PRA racing, it's a beautiful place, such a shame to see the devastation.  There were a few small quakes while I was in Tokyo and for me it was pretty frightening - the locals were far braver about it, they are great people and our thoughts are with them.

Man, some people here are talking about some US fishing boats that have flushed to the beach....as on the other side of the pond hundreds are dead and thousands are left homeless and the whole country possibly under nuclear threat.

But I understand both sides, as they are experiencing the same thing just different scales. Hopefully all is well in the states but more so in the Japanese side of the pond...Sad

...and a city they can't contact and have no news of 10000 people. Not good in the nuclear plants too, workers may have been irradiated in this morning explosion, 4 other reactors have problems and 140000 people have been evacuated from around the plants.
