A few quick grabs from Nick's Burgers, last night.

This is Julio's 1956 'Vert with mostly original Shetland Gray paint and obviously a model from Europe. Berlin, to be exact. Still has it's Euro spec. headlights. Like a lot of cars, it received U.S. spec. bumpers when it came over here.

Six volts and still working fine.

One of the coolest cars that I've seen in a long time. I love how original the entire vehicle is after all of these years. I felt like I was twelve again, as we cruised down the street in this wonderful car. Such a great feel, overall... but only having 85,000 miles on the odometer helps.

Scwhimmer and I took a spin in the 'Vert and we were amazed at how solid and rattle free she was. Cool to see someone build up a 36hp. engine. Mark Herbert made sure that Julio's powerplant wouldn't be just another Okrasa. It drives and pulls rather nicely. Julio has some great future plans for the car. Can't wait to see how it evolves.

As usual, good seeing all of the usual suspects at Nick's.

HAHA!! Sorry... I forgot to clarify for Keith.

 Grin

7:30pm is late when referring to arriving at D.K.P. Cruise Night... not pertaining to the evening, such as it were. My bedtime is usually around midnight. I don't care for sleep, much. I'm up before the dawn, too.

So, Keith, when are you going to move here? We don't get much of that wet clear stuff. I believe that your country calls it rain.

Well played. I was wondering when someone was going to point that out. I purposely didn't put any captions on that car.

I got this photo from a very dear friend and he thought this was a great VW.  Now don't puke all over the keyboard, but look in the background at the white Bug with D-spokes.... much better.  This just goes to show you how outsiders of the hobby look at our VWs.  We get judged by all those crazy street rod fads etc.  Now don't get me wrong.  I've been friends with this guy for over 50 years and he is really into cars.  Back in the early 60's he had an incredibly fast '57 Corvette.  He has a clone Buick Grand National.  He does all of his own work and is meticulous about his work.  He used to restore old airplanes.  Just makes you kinda wonder...

Someone's car, Mark? Or just doodling?

No one's car... just me, drawing. Since I was old enough to drive, I always wanted my license plate to read: OR WHAT. Sadly, the D.M.V. told me it was taken by the time I got my first car. So, it got drawn onto many of my early images. I even have a set of German style plates and aluminum backings sent to me from Karlsrhue, Germany in the early '80s. I just found those, too. The big one for the decklid and the long rectangular one for the front bumper.

Sorry to boost the thread, but I gotta ask....  How many of us here were / are car doodlers?  Before it became DKP, there was VW's Limited of Anaheim.....

yeah I started drawing cars when I was around 6 yr old. Pretty funny stuff. I'll have to scan some of it at some point. When I was a kid, I always had dreams of starting the Ratto car company, and outdoing the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. Back then it was easy to come up with V24 8-liter engines, running 6 turbos, 7 speed transmission, drag coefficients of .20...etc.  Roll Eyes As I got older, I took things a little more "seriously" and strated drawing existing cars, mostly Alfas, VW's, and the usual exotica around in the 80's.
When I worked @ BH with Sheep and some of the other clowns, we used to exchange faxes with Crofty who worked @ Tower Records. Some fo the VW related cartoons that went thru the fax machine were a riot. The Porsche 917-engine-powered single-seat sandrail with the 50 caliber machine gun comes to mind.  Grin

seeing the car live at SCC was even greater. I really like your car and the way you guys was racing at
SCC. As soon as the speaker announced that the line up was open for street cars you guys was there
