I would love to see the vintage guys' faces when they find out you turned that Kubel into an Acapulco.

My old '66 looker exactly one month shy of 20 years ago. First day on the road after going through it. Bought it painted but mechanically sacked at the '92 Classics from a Hawaiian (I hate painting cars).

Rust-free, solid-as-a-rock car. Built a beam with Jatech spindles; a trans with welded gears, billet double-ring super diff, and Berg intermediate mounts; 2110 with 44 Webers and Berg 1 5/8" header and dual quiets. Car settled after driving so it sat too low in this photo. Raised it and ran it a few times at Brotherhood Raceway on Terminal Island. Not the fastest but certainly one of the funnest cars I've owned.

Took it to FAT performance one day. Ron didn't know me but paid me the ultimate complement: "Now THAT'S a cal-look bug!" Made my day even if he was lying!

Apologies for the poor Polaroid photos. My skillz have improved since then.  Grin

How long did you own this car?  I'm positive that it was for sale in Denver in summer 1996. I fell in love with it and tried to come up with the money but I couldn't make it happen. I was heartbroken. It became a major influence on how I built my '67. I remmeber that it was the first time I drove a car with a Berg shifter. Sadly, I ran across it several times over the following years, every time in worse shape but it was never for sale. A friend of mine ended up buying it for a couple hundred dollars in 2007 or so. By then, it was in awful condition. Before I had a chance to buy it (and I would have), he sold it to another friend who turned it into a race car. It still had the centerlines on it and the color matched roll bar but that's about all that was left. He turned it into a race car but I did end up with the wheels from it.  I could post some pictures of how it looks now if you're interested.
