Mat, is that from the book with the funny cars, fuel alterds and stuff from the 60's? Sure I've seen it before!

I don't know the source or for that matter any of the details of the photo but I found the image on a Flikr account whilst looking for shots of a 70s Plymouth Funny Car. Thought it was quite a cool shot for a bunch of reasons.

Looked on Amazon.com - it's a Bob McClurg book called "Diggers, Funnies, Gassers & Altereds". I borrowed it years ago, it's brilliant. Smiley

Here's a shot by Stephan Szantai taken on the 605 fwy after a Drag Day a few years back changed over to b&w...if you look closely, you can see Steph's bug reflected in the bumper.

So... you can't drive a car and use a cell/mobile phone at the same time (in California), but you can take photos and drive?

Dean, Stephan, was holding his camera rig ( big money ) outside the car going about 70 mph clicking off photos. He moved down the line of us and got several great shots! Road was a bit slippery too, it had just poured buckets of rain about an hour earlier. I kept waiting for him to hit a bump and watch the camera disappear. Explain that one to the insurance adjuster! That was great fun that day.

Yes, but as of July 1st, 2008... that law went into effect. Also added on that list is eating food, text messaging, and anything else that is a distraction which takes away from operating the vehicle. I just heard that they're adding dogs on drivers' laps, too. Thank God. Most people in So Cal can't safely operate a car WITHOUT all of the above distractions. Personally, I'm happy about the new laws. Although it's pretty sad that it had to come to this. I've been using an earpiece on my cell phones for almost two years, now. Even most of the new G.P.S. devices won't let you alter or set your course without being pulled over. If the car's in motion, it displays a warning pertaining to that.

Conclusion; if you want to take pictures from a moving car in So Cal (and other states), either have a passenger do it, or make sure there's no Law around you.
