Title: MWS BRM's
Post by: low oval on May 25, 2008, 05:37:42 am
Question for you guys with these rims.
I bought these rims back in sept. of 07 to replace my chromies. Currently I am running 195/50/15's on all 4 corners of my 63 ghia, my plan was to run 145's on 4.5 wheels and keep the 195/50/15's for the back on 5.5 rims.  I got the 145's today and had them mounted on the 4.5's.  When I went to put them on the ghia the lugs were too long, they hit the brake shoes, I called a vw place and they said to back the lugs out and use loc tite, that seems crazy.
I was going to cut the lugs but the grease cap sticks out too far on the rim, so I am looking for spacers.  Any ideas?
As for the back, I was hoping to run 195's but now I think they probably won't fit if I find a way to space them out.  not to mention that the 145's are 2.5" taller than the back 195's so I'm now planning on 195/65/15's.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
jim

as far as the lugs either cut them Down or get shorter ones if cutting them down pull the drum off and bolt the wheel to it the lug should come all the way  flush with the inside of the Drum, What year is your Ghia? if it pre 60 the front Drums are 3/4 of an inch longer so it puts the grease cap out there  you can change the front drums to 61 to 65 which have a shorter collar on them the spindle lenght is the same just the drums are different  I Dont think you can get a 5.5 Brm under the rear fender on a ghia MWS wheels have a different offset then the Flat 4's which are 5 inch wide

thanks,
tried my rims on my friends 64 bug and they fit, so somewhere along the line my brake drums got switched with older ones.
