That is the most, rare DKP items I have ever seen in one location.... ever. Would you believe Jim Holmes even brought his famous California Look "surf" T-shirt he wore during the '75 photo session? The original artwork for the DKP sticker and hood badge was also shown. Massive old photo collections, great food, fun day. Even Rick Z. made a surprise appearance..(or that's what I am told, I guess I must have missed him). Thanks Sarge and Sharon.

thanks for the invite sarge and sharon/the time was very cool to see DKP 1,2,3,..members..and the awesome pictures from the years gone by(thanks deano)...i left like a thief in the night and am very lucky to have made it home alive as i was sitting at a stop light 2 blocks away from sarges house and was looking at the signal ready to turn green when all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye i noticed a flash of two cars(a honda and a older ford truck)running the red light at breakneck speeds and they collided right in front of me and totaled both cars with badly injured occupants..a scene i remember vividly from my own car crash back in 77...and other than losing another hubcap on my vanagon i made it home safe and sound..!!  you guys rock..!!

Thanks Sarge for organizing my party! What a great night - good food, great beer and even better wine! Even Carlita and Stinky 2 behaved!

Collected soooo many unseen photos for the new book, too!

See you later at Bill's - weather permitting!

All of you guys are bastards. I'm sitting up here in the snow and rain bored out of my mind. If it weren't 30 degrees outside, I'd yank my engine or something. For God's sake I'm watching the Super Bowl. I hate football!  Angry

Glad you guys had a great time. Sounded like a stone(d) gas.  Grin

Thanks Jim (s).  That was, without question, the best VW event I have ever attended.  Old and new friends, stories and laughs galore.
I decided to drive my '62 over to Sarge's house, and when I got there, these three "older gents" are standing on the lawn, chatting and smiling.  I parked and immediately enter into a conversation with them after one of them asks if the wheels are real.  within a minute, after realizing that these guys are bating my hook, I am formally introduced to Art Alvarelz, John Lazenby and Sergio Rampone, a third original DKP member.  What great people and such a rich history.  John is still a BIG TIME car guy with a nice original and documented black 63 beetle and a host of Chrysler 300's, not to mention the head of ROYZE, whose carb kits I've installed more than a few times over the decades............
Well, we are out on the lawn talking (correction, I'm there listening to stories) when a "tall lanky guy" with a grin pops out of the house and starts in on the conversation.  He's talking about standing in the parking lot of Taco Villa, with a friend, many moons ago,  listening to the big V8 guys talk about a "guy with an 11 second VW" who "you don't want to mess with" and this "tall lanky guy" turns to his friend and asks, "who in the hell are they talking about?"  His buddy says, "it's you!"  We all start laughing and I am informally introduced to Mike Mahaffey, who continues to enthrall at least me with stories about the big V8's not getting out of the hole fast enough, without traction, and these cars turning off on side streets to hide from the whoopin' they just got.
If that weren't enough, I offered John the keys to the '62 and he took it for a ride!  He said it made his day, but the grin he came back with made mine even better.
So, then John goes into this story about how he and Doug Haydon bought out the remaining stock of the mag 5 x 205 torque thrusts from American Racing back in the day, and how they tried to sell them off and sure enough, who pulls up and hops out of his car with his wife............Doug.  He then continues the story by saying that his wife was pregnant at the time and he cleaned out their cash to buy these wheels, and ..............I'm still laughing.  Well, Allen (Wiess) walks out at the same time John and I are trying to convince Doug to drive the car.  He grabs the keys and tells him to get in.  They crawl out the driveway and the next thing I hear is the car zooming down Schaeffer with the Pepco singing WOT.  We are all grinning and then this cool Vanagon shows up and all the guys I'm with start greeting the driver with an informality one saves for a old friend.  He shakes all the hands and turns to me and introduces himself.  Roger Grago.
Need I go on?  Jim Holmes......Dean.......Dyno.........

It was the hardest thing I've done in a long time, having to leave that party, but family duties and a sick boy pulled rank.

Sarge, thank you.
