Title: Gary's Picnic - Drag Racing @ Shakespeare County Raceway 29-31 May
Post by: Fasterbrit on May 12, 2010, 09:42:01 am
So far we have 17 Outlaw Flat Four cars signed up to race, CSP and Ron Lumus racing the turbo Razoredge Ghia (8 second potential) and many cars from the Der Autobahn Scrapers (DAS). Maybe Udo Becker as well? Ole? There's talk of some Split Bus racing with the BWA and some Vans from the Ultimate Street Bays (USB). It sounds like it's going to be a fantastic event, just like last year, only better!

Anyone else coming to race or spectate? Would be good to hear from y'all - especially those of you coming from abroad! Come on Tekken and the SCC boys and girls!  8)

Regards, Matt

For those of you in Europe who are planning on visiting us at the end of May for Gary's Picnic, we have organised some discounted ferry travel and entry for you.

So we can organise the discounted entry at the gate we need a list of names by the 21st of May to give to the organisers. For those of you who have not already spoken to Bernie Newbury, can you please email him mail@bernardnewbury.co.uk with your name and the names of those who will be travelling with you, so that the track knows who to expect.

Bernie will come back to you with the details and arrangements for the discounted ferry travel and how to book your tickets.

Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks.

The sign is really crappy to see - I look out for a few markers on the road first!

You'll pass a pub on the left hand side, set back with a little village area, then various houses and farms on both sides. The road widens where you need to turn, with a lay-by on the left, and then a right hand turn filter lane into the track in the middle of the road. Pat and Vanessa went flying past last year - there aren't any signs until you're level with the entrance road.

The sign itself is a white background with the Shakespeare County Raceway logo in green, very difficult to see from a distance, and as i said, it's pretty much level with the filter lane. You're better looking out for the road signs for "Long Marston Airfield and Storage".

Crazy McStairs was running low 10's but with some impressive mph figures, first run about 130 (Sure someone will have the exact times!) Seemed to be having issues launching smoothly, once thats sorted then easily into the nies I would think.

just got back.  Congrats to Lee Crofts into the 11s with an 11.98 if I remember correctly.  Also to Pete Shattock with 11.87 in full street trim.  Quality runs from James Wotton 10.33 in a crosswind and Jim Smith 10.9 at 78mph!  Was an issue with 4th so effectively a half pass.  Sounded a bit of an animal.  60foot pb for Adele 1.46 very nice resulting in an 11.27.  Shame about Bernie and Andy hitting the armco but both ok.

The CSP ghia has a fresh engine in for tomorrow after finding some issues earlier today. It fired right up and sounded lovely! Udo broke a rocker but luckily has spares so is also back out tomorrow. The track hasn't been in the best of conditions due to it bring a public track day and the crosswind didn't help! A good day though and everyone OK :)

bernie crashed, missed it as I had decided to go home (little one was getting bored), so it must have happened after 3pm.  Also heard one of the OFF spun almost hitting the car in the other lane!

Did manage to get ten run's in , but still seem to be chaseing my 13.36 time from last time out with poor result's .

Thanks for all

See you Udo

Thankyou to everyone for making another Race weekend fantastic. Great Food, great laughs. Thanks chaps.

I had a fantastic time (have I told you I ran two 11's  ;) )

Two people deserve a special mention

Frank Hoffman for taking my car to the track in his coach (which is for sale :D) and sorting out a minor carb/fuel propblem on the friday long before I even got to the track. He then helped get the car ready to race on the saturday. Thank you Frank

And Nicola, It was her first race weekend and on her 25th Birthday weekend too! Not only did she attend to support but also managed to learn a lot and become my startline crew. She even enjoyed the male dominated humour as well :o

Hope Bernie, Matt and Andy sort their cars as quickly as possible.

Lee

Thanks Lee and congrats on your new pb's! Also big congrats to Pete Shattock on his superb runs with the new Shattock/JPM combo. Sounds awesome and runs hard as nails!
Had issues with my car over the weekend - it didn't
feel right powerwise and I didn't read the signs of valve float until it was too late! As a consequence my number four exhaust lifter ha shattered. Hopefully, will pull the motor soon and have a proper assesment of the damage. Hope all goes well for Bernie and Andy too! Keeno

Well done to everyone else for doing good numbers and putting on a show.

Hi Henri,

The float level and fuel pressure is ok and I'm running Q16, it's a bit lean when there's no boost but the problem with that run is when I launched I saw on the dynojet that it was way too rich!!! So it dropped dead at that moment! Due to the vacuum spring on the secondary side of the holley carb. So the secondary side opened too soon I think! ;) Otherwise the car is too heavy or the gearbox too long! ??? I will try and test some things soon! ;)

Cheers,

Christoph

Here's an onboard movie of the second testrun, way too rich at the start and misshifting in second gear... at the end fired the engine up to check the data..

Enjoy! ;D

Hi Mc stairs from what i saw on the first clip is that at the line when you where reving there was no black smoke from the exhaust but when you shifted in to 2nd the smoke came and also the power that tels me that the vac secondery was to late .
i know that launcing cant be simulated on a dyno and that you need a lot of fuel to get of the line and mayby your lm reading is to slow ,
i had this problem once and solved it by retarding  the lanch ingition curve so i created more airspeed in the carb then the 2nd opend faster,
just try to help i hope you solve the problem.

gr henri.
