Title: some parts choosing questions...
Post by: rebel on June 27, 2008, 17:43:48 pm
hey guys!

Don't know if I should put theese questions in here, but...

I need some kind of traction bar and/or HD trans mount for my 1914cc.  I ain't too hard-core, but I have problems with launching

I was considering a classic traction bar and/or Bugpack Trans Mount. Woat would you choose for not so strong engine?
It sould work okay in the first place, style is second priority :)

Berg traction bar and OEM VW trans mounts if it is primarily a street car
make sure your clutch cable sleeve has a "bow" to it too

Make your own traction bar!!! It is VERY easy, and costs almost nothing!

Thanx for anwer :) Do you have plans for it? The steel rectangular tube is the easiest part. I haven't yet figured out how to fix it to the bumper mounts... The pics on the online stores are that small for a reason :)
Does it have to be bolted ti the engine in any way, or just let the tube support the engine during launches? Do you know wher to find specific tech info?

Just make a V-bracket that bolts to the bumper mounts. Be sure to use proper thickness material.

A friend of mine made his own traction bar and went as far as to make flanges off bar that bolted to Type 2/3 mounting bosses on the case (and ran under case too). Not sure if it ever gave up the ghost, being rigidly "bolted" to the case (I thought of case bosses snapping off!) though...

A friend of mine made a traction bar that bolted to the case as well, but he made a "U" shaped bracket that fit over the 8MM case bolt below the oil pump. It seemed to work fine.
