Title: Chevy rod journal sizes
Post by: leec on November 28, 2016, 15:11:41 pm
Hi guys,
I have a vw crank that has chevy rod journals.
I want to measure journals later today, what is standard chevy journal size and what sizes are oversize bearings available?

If a Vw rod journal is (54.98-55.00) I reckon a 2" Chevy rod journal is (50.78 to 50.80) 50.80 being 2"
.25 then .50 oversize bearings

Real Steel do the bearings in various sizes. 2" is the size but I seem to remember the bearings being narrower? Maybe Buick rather than regular small block Chevy? It's been 13 years since I built my Chevy journal motor!

I think he means the actual rod journal size on the crank for measuring tolerances not the bearing size as that's 2" std.
I kind of need to know too as I've just had rod bearing failure so hoping my calculations are right!

Yep, want to measure the journal to see if I have enough material to get the journals polished. Hoping the journals are still on the big side of the measurement.
