Title: 5.5" Rods --86mm stroke ?
Post by: T11964 on March 25, 2008, 08:44:16 am
Have a 86mm Berg Crank  and a set 5.5 Carrillo , bought  years ago at Bergs.
I now has 2. thoughts about the lenght off rods , now all uses longer rods.
When I bought it ,Bergs said that this was what they recommended.
Any opinions on this ?

Hi,
well the 5.500" rod you have are good for the 86mm crank.Of course it's quite triky when it's time to put the piston and cylinder with this combo (you will have to chek piston skirt clearanca at BDC).
I run this combo and works very fine!!.You will have more side load on the cylinder with those short rod comparing with the longer available today. And of course to go upper than 7500rpm longer would be better so as aked you ritchie, for what use is the engine?
ps:if you decide to go other rod please tell me ;D ;D

Thanks for your replyes .
Street is what it`s all about (maybe 1 go at the strip)
jr59 , the rods are for Buick/porsche journals and the crank has all T4 mains.
Engine will be 86x 4" with JPM heads ( got them thursday , yahoo).
                           Regards Claus.

I like short rods in a heavy street car. It will build the torque your car needs to get moving.
