I've been lurking here for several weeks and really enjoy the 'ambience' here.

I've enjoyed following several threads re: Old School, Dynamic CR, early cams (ie Norris, Isky...) and the adventures/misadventures of the early club scenes..

Jim Ratto made this post on another thread and I was hoping for some feedback.

1914
Engle 125
40 x 35 heads
2 2 bbl carbs

there's a reason I suggest it to guys

it works

I am putting together that motor. Albeit with 42 x 37.5 ported, non-welded heads.

What CR would you suggest to optimize the Engle 125 cam?

I am thinking a Static CR of 9.5. This will get a Dynamic CR of 7.94:1 using an IC number of 54 degrees. (Straight up E125 shows IC event at 56 degrees) I read a post you made regarding advancing the cams so max lift occurs at 104 degrees ATDC. If I am following your thinking...The Engle 125 seems to fall in the 106 range 'straight up' so a 2 degree advance would be warranted. If I am off base here I'll rethink a few things.

Thanx in advance

Well, Mark Engle reccomended 9:1 for the Engle 120, so that puts you in the ballpark.

I've got a 1914cc with 040 modified to 40x37 + a C35 cam, 1.1:1 rockers and CR about 9.2:1. Works okay. I like the throttle reaction. Hard to say more, cuz I can't abuse it much - Still running in.
