Has anybody install the 86C with advance, maybe 4* on a stroker motor? If so, what was the result?

Hi Ted,
I was thinking of doing the same,
I think I will try it, or buy an FK87 and advance that?

Unless you have really huge ports in the heads, its not worth it. The 86C pulls so much torque with a good set up, that advancing is not needed. If you have relatively small valves and large ports there may be an advantage of keeping the mix in motion.

I ran 86C straight up in my 2276 with "Lonnie Reed- style" wedgeports by Jeff, 9.3:1, 40mm vents in 48's, 165xF2X205, 17 deg initial and it pulled from 3000 to 7500, very docile off idle too, sure liked to accelerate, but was very driveable.
A change to 84mm crank and advancing, as you mentioned, by 4 deg, took away about 1000rpm up top, everything else left the same. Alot less fun to drive.

I'm currently running an 86C in a 2276. Raised the compression to 10.55:1 from 8.7 and it is night and day. It really likes compression. It's running air through my Fumio heads (42X37 welded units) with 48IDAs (42 vents).
Thought about advancing it 2*, but it works so good right now I don't really want to mess with it. Whatever gains/changes couldn't be that great.
Runs cool in Texas heat too.
I used to run an FK87 and liked it very much, but the compression was down near 8.7:1. Still pulled off high 12.7s in a full weight streetcar.
Either cam is very good, in my opinion, but they like to REV! Lots of maintenance to stay on top and change your springs often.

Thanks guy's for your info, what I'm going to do is dialing it in this weekend and see where I'm at and go from there. Trying to get the most out of this cam, and keeping it a tad under 10:1. Want to use pump gas.

I'm also running a Web 86C straight up in my 2332 cc with 10.5:1 CR.  Made 180.4 WHP on the chassis dyno and 1/4-mile ET 12.9 seconds at 104 MPH I live at 3,640 ft altitude (and race at 3,300 ft on 91 octane pump gas-Canada).

Full-weight stock '68 Beetle (just under 2,000 lb with driver).  Also drives very nicely on the street, similar to the FK8 but idles/revs higher.

With my set-up, I'm at around 9.8:1, so I should be ok. Thanks.

Hi Ted, I'm running 9.7:1 in my 94 x 78 since July 2008, you know I drive it all over So Cal come sun or rain, on 91 octane. Cam in this is Pauter R6E8 .526" @ valve, 271 deg @ .050", 304 advertised. Dec thru April I run my little pulley so I can get the temp up. Summer/fall I put the full size back on. It WILL ping if I drive it "wrong" (put my foot in it, hot out, low rpm), I think the CR is ok, but the locked advance is the culprit. If I drive it with some mercy at low rpm (under 2500) it runs cool all day long. PS. my cam is set up @ 104ATDC intake lobe peak (ground 108).

You have a pretty cool running engine Jim. Sounds great also. Well I'm running the cam straight up. Finally got the heads on, not the ones I'm waiting for but other set, V-7's from Fred S. They'll have to do for now, it's a good set that does work very well. Going for more of an old school look. Hope it runs well. Going to have to go with a taller lash cap or my rockers will hit the retainer. I'll get it, trying for drag day with a dyno session if all possible, will see.
