Title: My new Cal Look project 1966
Post by: Frenchy Dehoux on December 23, 2016, 17:46:56 pm
I have decided to build another Cal Looker now that I am retired I have plenty of time to build it including my NSU which is waiting for some fab work to get done. The front beam was narrowed 4 inches to be able to fit the CB front disc brakes with drop spindles and the BRM from Belgium.

 Thanks Frenchy

A few more as of today. The engine is a 2165 CC all of the machining work was done by Mike Fischer here in Phoenix AZ . I already ran the engine on the stand. I will post later the engine specs.

The famous painter here in Phoenix Buddy Hale will be painting the car sometime after the Holidays wait until you see this one done. A good friend Michael Hartrump helped me getting the car ready by blocking and priming the car making sure it is very straight before it will be taken to Buddy Hale for the final journey.

The most important person helping me with this project is my son Marc he is an inspiration to me his welding skills are beyond me and he is very meticulous.

Frenchy, I got the rubber bumper guard inserts at West Coast Classics.  They were made by Flat-4.  The best bumper guards are made by wolfsburg west IMO.

..Just a heads up on the bumpers...I got my bumpers from Wolfsburg West with the quality chrome they are nice and was going to get the same on the bumper guards but they turned out to be $85..00 each...!...I was not going to drill holes in these to install the rubber guards...They then told me they had some for $10.00 each  so I ask to see them and they look great to me..!! better than some I have seen out there..! Rubbers are from Flat 4

Pictures of the 66 back from the paint shop from Buddy Hale !!! The color is Zenith Blue L 639 next the car will be in the garage for the next two months for the paint to cure than I will take it back to Buddy Hale to wet sand and buff. Soon after it will have the headliner installed and the body will be lowered on the pan to be bolted back together.

Thank You for your comments the next thing is to get the seats upholstered and i decided for the plaid interior Dark navy blue on the edges and cloth plaid centers front and rear seats. The same idea I had in my 54 oval see pictures. If any one has some good idea for the blue design please post what you have or may find a color that may look good with Zenith Blue.

  Thanks

[attachment=1] just restored the waterblue interior of my zenith 67 (http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,26604.msg339795.html#msg339795)
the plaid black/blue fabric has been reproduced, maybe you want to use this in the upholstery?

Why not paint them body colour?

Lee easier to keep clean if i paint it body color will show all the dirt and if i hit rocks it will also chip to where with undercoating it will bounce off and easier to keep clean !!!!!!

  Thanks

I have pondering what to do with mine, I like the painted look but want a driver also and I don't want to deal with chipping paint all the time. Kev D on here has undercoated them and then painted the body color over that and it looked good.

In the UK, it is pretty common to use a 'Stone Chip'  product which you apply over a primed or painted surface so long as it is keyed and then you can paint over the top in the body colour. You end up with an orange peel texture , it can be thinned but I have never tried to get a smoother finish.

I am not sure if it is available in the US but ' Gravitex ' made by UPOL is very good. I used it on my car about ten years ago and it is still sound today, no flaking .
