hey. anyone run with 180mm j&g floater clutch on type 4 or wbx?
i have a 2779 ccm oxy boxer with a small flyweel/clutch problem. was on my first test run and the flyweel came of at 7000 rpm. :o(
so hope to get some feedback from you guys if you have seen or tryed that.

The flywheel came off? Did the flywheel break or did the bolts shear off?

BTW, what flywheel did you use? Some of the type4 flywheels are cast, and if I am correct all the waterboxer ones are forged.

when i put the flyweel on the small o ring was between crank and flyweel so it was a bit out of balance. then it was the bolt to hold all the power and when i did the test run. but fuck it runs well and it is much torq..

i use a 200mm typr 4 bough of a freind. so the next plan was to bou a 180 mm flyweel for jg floater if i can get that for a type 4/wbx

I ran a 200mm converted for the J&G on my Pro-Turbo Type-IV. Make sure you use the forged model and that you use only quality hardware (arp studs) and you will have a bullet-proof set-up.

It was years since I even touched a type 4, but I am almost sure FAT makes a 200 mm forged flywheel. The stock forged ones are as rare as hens teeth...

The flywheel in Bang's engine is a KEP 200 mm type 4, the bolts are the BAS  12.9 grade precision bolts and dowell pins are hardend steel 8 mm pins. All bolts and pins are snaped  :o. As Bang wrote a piece of the flywheel Oring was cut during assembling of the engine. This little piece of Oring was between the mating surfaces of the crank and flywheel :'(. The bolts shows signs of that they have been loose before snaping.  So no racing for Bang Racing at SCC this year :( :(

Have you guys though about using the waterboxer 28mm flywheel. I understand they are all forged.

I only use 914 flywheels for race engines , they are steel . And i match it with Gene Berg dowel pins and BAS special screws , never had problems . You can machine it for floater or 200 mm kennedy - black magic .

the crank have marks on the end bot all the thret and holes for the pins are okay. think it can be done agin. i drive with a bus gear so the 228mm flyweel will fit inthere.
udo i will bring the crank and flyweel to scc then u can se if it can be done if you want. :o)

Yes the bolts did shear. I will post pictures of crank, flywheel and bolts/pin  later. The crank is damage but i think it's repaiable since the damage of the pin holes and threads are only 1 mm deep.

BTW who sells the J&G floater clutch ??

Sorry i am not at SCC this year , but i think it can get reground and new 11/32 dowel pins installed . Also the BAS screws . You can give it to Peter Köhmann if you want , and he has an expert (surprise guest ) who can look at the crank .

I had all the cover/stand studs shear off at the May Bugorama. No damage really, but lost my first round match because of it.....which sucks!

Yes i can , but if you need a new one i would take a 914 and modify it to 200mm with kennedy or modify for floater . The easier way would be kennedy and black magic .
