Sounds interesting. There used to be a V-8 squareback here in Denver but I haven't seen it for a few years.

Wow, that's a lot of fabricating involved, is the frame built from scratch? Mid- or frontmounted engine? The frame makes me think of the "Squarrera" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95CZRWdusfY , please keep the pics coming! :)

Interesting but I never fully understood the thinking to building a V8 VW. I`ve never really seen one faster than a VW VW. Never the less, keep posting.

Welcome to the Lounge! Please excuse the high school boys out there, who have forgotten thats its OK to put a VW motor into a non VW
and vice versa. A project like yours commands respect from those who can barely build a car out of a catalog, personally I don't care if it you use a
rocket motor...As long as its a Cal Look VW.
Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for ALL of the comments. If everyonedid the same thing, it would be a dull world. Here are some more pics of my project including my brand new engine. The nasty old red one is only for "dummy" measurements

if you only run dragrace with it your better of with an th350 400 or powerglide the 700 got some weak links in it the are more expensive to make them work on a drag car and less reliable.

Body for the most part will be stock, with the exception of a air intake in front apron for radiator. Color is going to be dark gray metallic. Attached are pics of tires and wheels. Goodyear Eagle GT 195x60x15 that whhels will be painted same color as car with a red pinstripe and possible "baby moon" center caps.

What's the story on the bug parked next to the squareback?

Good morning. The Bug is my '69 2.0 ltr Porsche powered model. My oldest son and I built it while he was a senior in high school. he is now 36 years old and I still have the car in MY garage. He lives in Chicago with his wife and 3 boys. The red one is how it looke when we first started. Had the body acid dipped, replace the bad floor boards with new ones and added a Ghia fron beam. Obviously, the white one is when it was finished. We kind of like it.

Yes, the frame is from scratch. It is 2" x 3" tube. Mustang II front suspension, small block Chevy 350ci/330hp, 700R4 trannie, narrowed 9"Ford,4:11,triangulated 4-bar rear suspension.

I'm back from Florida and have started working again on the project. Today, hopefully, will be spent making more floor patterns for the back area of the V8Squareback. I will then transfer the patterns to 18 gauge sheet steel. Will have more photos as work progresses. :)

The only way that square will look totally "right" is to have a BIG ASS BLOWER sticking out of the hood -- yep yep -- that's what it needs

I believe this car has one fatal flaw...
I agree. But, you know when you get old like me (64) you get a little slower. I am looking forward to a very productive fall and winter to get a lot done. Summers here are Hell and I really don't work well in the heat.

it isn't finished yet!    ;)
